I purchased my '05 XPS about a year ago with 94K. In that time I've noticed that when my truck sits from a few hours to over night that when I'm, for instance, backing out my driveway or a parking space that my brakes will squeak as I'm lightly braking. What causes this? The brakes don't squeak any other time but the do "moan" when I'm lightly braking, for instance, when your stuck in traffic and you're just creeping along. What causes this???

The brakes don't make any noises when stopping completely only during the scenarios as described above.

The backing up thing is the rear drums. I replaced mine and it stopped. Even full of diff juice they squeaked. The moan at light pressure I'm not sure about, but my work truck does it too.

When the first new set of rear shoes went on is when the first reverse squeaks began and it hasn’t stopped since. I look at it as a reverse warning system alerting mothers and small children who can’t read good.

The moan happens at a dead stop and if I let up on the peddle and creep forward and TRY to make it happen. Its a non factor and very slight if I make it happen.

I am not sure if responding to a 2-year old post will go anywhere, but I noticed the very same squeak on my 2005 SR5 a couple of months ago. Many posts like this one suggest that the issue is with the rear brake drums.

This is an ongoing issue. We're still trying to figure it out.

Mine scream like a banshee, backing up, or going forward for the first few feet after its sat overnight, but it always goes away after moving even a few feet. I'm pretty sure its my fronts.

New pads, shoes etc. I just deal with it. I assume I need to put some anti-squeal grease on the pads but not worth taking it apart for me.

Ha! Still here with the same problem! I had the back brakes replaced shortly after I posted. The moan with slight brake pedal pressure went away, but eventually returned months later. I just accept it now after 3 yrs of ownership!

Normal with moisture causing flash rust overnight. As long as it goes away after a little while that's normal.
