What size lift do I have?

Picked up a new to me Certified 2016 1794 4x4 a couple weeks ago and am curious what size lift it has. My suspension knowledge is nearly zero. Pic of the front shows 5" bracket. Rear has 3" blocks. Components are Pro Comp. Am I correct in assuming this is a 5"/3" or is there more to it than what I measured. Will snap some more pics tomorrow.

Also trying to resolve a slight shudder I'm feeling at low speed acceleration. From searching on the forum, it sounds like a CB drop may be in order. The truck does not currently have one installed but it is oriented properly with the single hole down.

Since the powertrain is still under warranty for another 1.5 years or so, should I inquire with the dealership about the shudder or just try out the CB drop kit to see if it resolves the issue?

The 5” bracket won’t tell you. The 3” block tells you your rear was lifted 3”, but your leafs could have sagged since the install. For current actual lift, measure from the center of the wheels to the fenders. Someone here will have stock numbers.

Thanks @joonbug . Front looks to be around 28.75" and rear 28.25". I did see a thread comparing heights from stock, I'll try to find it again.

The in-coil spacer is 1.25" thick and the above coil is 4.5" inside flange to inside flange, ~5" outside to outside.

Looks like the 7 inch kit.

And it looks scary, that's a lot of spacers.

I would try the carrier bearing drop kit, easy to do. I used an Ironman kit, took about 10 minutes to install.

wait... they certified that with that lift? thats not a certifiable truck... assuming its Toyota. They cut the frame for those kinds of lifts

I thought the same thing when I saw it listed as CPO.

The lift was the only exception that wasn't covered in the CPO paperwork.

yea.. i DONT believe thats how it works.. any time we have these things at work they cannot be certified.. because the frame cut is the big problem

they might be offering some kind of third party certified deal? not sure honestly

Just reviewed the warranty paperwork again. Says it's between me and Southeast Toyota Distributors with Fidelity Warranty Services as the administrator.

And the exclusions section is pretty extensive, but typical. Has 21 line items of which most exclude damage resulting from accidents or improper use and then line 21 states: "lift kits are excluded."

Curious to see what they say since "center support bearing" is specifically listed as covered in the drive line section. I doubt installing the drop kit would be covered but I also don't want that to void it's future coverage of it's not already excluded due to the lift.

unfortunately with aftermarket lifts it usually nulls the warranty on differentials, CV axles, and drive shafts in my experience working for a dealer. but each warranty company is different

hell one refused to replace the transmission on a tundra because the larger tires were "the problem" (we all know that isnt the case.. but they make the rules)

Yikes, I didn't realize it was that bad. Again, very limited knowledge about suspension mods but I'll learn more. What specifically gives you cause for concern? Reduction in travel given all the spacers?

Not Planning to throw a bunch of money into upgrades right now but it will be nice to know what I should look into.

Is it 2wd? Looks like a lift spindle in the front as well.

The 2 things that I see......I don't know if having an in-coil spacer and a lift spacer above the coil is correct, and those rear blocks highly increase the chances of axle wrap.

Thanks @Tundra234 . Does the bottom leaf look stock or aftermarket? I'm assuming a new leaf pack would be the ideal setup in the rear?

That is a stock leaf spring. With that much lift, a custom built pack would be the way to go. Alcan springs are pretty popular as they can build them with the lift. Some of the guys use Deaver as well.

Seriously, that lift is terrifying, I am just picturing hitting a pothole at highway speed and the truck doing the wave.

It seems like a typical pro comp 6" or 7" lift based on pics I've seen of their kits. Is the combination of in spring and above spring spacers the main concern?

What components would you target to improve concerns. Sounds like a leaf pack would improve the rear end, what about the front?

Do you want a lift that is that high? If so, I think some other guys can help with advice on a lift that size. If it were me, I would ditch all that and go with a coilover kit or a complete lift kit from old man emu or ironman or something around the 3" lift area.

I appreciate the responses so far as it certainly gives me things to look into and points out the limitations of the truck. Keep them coming.

Is the lift way overkill for my needs? Absolutely
Would I have installed the same size if I bought the truck new? No, probably closer to 3"

Alas, it was on it when I bought it and it had the trim level, mileage, and consistent service history I was looking for. Really not looking to dump thousands into making it more functional for offroad but if there are things I should plan for to avoid future damage given my typical driving conditions below, I'm all ears.

    My typical driving conditions are:
    • 99% street in city with little traffic, limited highway
    • No towing
    • ~7k miles per year
    • Daily driver but SUV is the family hauler

Once the sub frame is cut, I don't think you can go back.

You could get some full length shocks, like the Fox ones from BDS Suspension?

Holy :censored:! Just crawled under the truck and saw the sub frame cut. I still don't know what I'm looking at but it definitely does not look reversible.

Anyone have pictures of what a normal sub frame cut looks like that I can reference?

A competent welder can weld it back together if you ever need to. But in your case I’d just leave it and enjoy the truck. You’ll be fine.

Thanks. It seems to ride fine for what it is other than the slight shudder at takeoff. The original plan was to wait for a 2022 but the pricing is absurd. I'll most likely baby this one for a few years and wait for the dust to settle (and hopefully the prices) on a 3rd gen.

@empty_lord you were right. Sub frame is definitely cut. No idea how they certified it although there is a standard exclusion for mods not performed by a manufacturer authorized installer that meet mfr specs so that gives an out for them.

Will report back with what I learn after first trip to the dealer.
