Got my 21 back in the beginning of April. Immediately bought the factory grab handle set up from Sparks. Built a new house and while moving misplaced the box. While getting Xmas decorations up we found it!!!! Installed today. Did not know what I was missing!!!! Fits like a glove and took about 15 minutes total for install.

One of the 1st mods I did to my 19. Cant understand the reasoning to not install that from the factory

One the best mods I did, especially after the lift was installed.

Really disappointed Toyota removed such an important part from the newer tundras. What were they thinking?

Since I did the grab handle install I noticed I use it every time getting into the drivers seat. Sure is nice to have it and no longer grabbing onto the steering wheel to jump in the seat.

No grab handle, no cooler, etc. Nice savings to improve bonus pay, thanks Mike Sweers

Thanks! After these pain in the ass, expensive mods that result in bloody knuckles and such, I enjoy a quick, useful mod lol

I think they created problems with airbags during crash tests. So, to get better scores, they were eliminated.

I know I'm going to be the odd man out here. I had the grab handle in the 2013 that I just traded-in for a 2021. I never touched the damn and I doubt I'll miss it in the new rig :p

First thing I noticed when going for the test drive on my new to me 2016 is.....no grab handle!

The Sparks grab handle looks nice, but how does it affect airbag operation? I notice that the factory A-pillar trim has "Airbag" label molded into it.

    Too many, but not enough....
I would need to check but i beleive the DS grab handle also has the airbag written on there. It would have to since there was always airbags in those positions before they took it off from the factory.

Pretty sure there is a lower safety score with vs. without. That is why it was removed.

I don’t know about that……it was in the previous gen then removed in this gen……and now again in the 22 gen

Possibly Toyota just tried to save a few bucks.

OK last question before I order one....is it sturdy? Do you guys feel like it mounts in a way that it'll never be a problem?

Seems very sturdy to me. No diff than the passenger side. I’m sure if it’s your goal to tear it out you probably could. If you use it as it’s intended to be used I’m sure it will be fine.

Not sure what the weight limit is……if you’re a huge guy/gal maybe it will fail. Haven’t seen anything stating a weight limit but there’s probably something somewhere stating the max force it can take.

oh I forgot to say that I ordered mine from the dealership so no shipping charges, but I did have to go there and pick it up while running other errands in the nearby area.

    62220-0C050-BO. $106.41
    74610-0C082-BO. $ 47.39

    Plus Tax

Those part numbers are for the (GRAY) interior. Think there’s one that’s black also

Fwiw, comparing crash test results between two entirely different platforms is kinda like comparing apples and oranges. Perhaps it is back due to popular demand, but other changes were also made that may compensate for the alteration. Could also be that it improved crash test results and saved a few bucks too.

Came standard in my 08 SR5, I can't live without it, Always used both fronts and rears and with the Nfab steps makes it so easy jumping in/ out of rig.... Toyota removing it on newer Tundra was a bad call...

my 07 had it and I thought it was the same platform as my 21. 07-13 gen 2 then a facelift on the 14-21s for gen 2.5. Didn’t think they did an entirely new platform. My ignorance if they did….just not something I followed that closely.

No, I was referring to the 22 being a whole new animal. With so many changes who knows what all could be different in a crash.

Ya it’s pretty crazy watching them purposely crash a brand new truck. Watched a few of those videos and it’s really violent but it gives them all kinds of data.

Still think Toyota just took the “cheap” route removing the drivers GH. Makes ya wonder where else they cut corners to save a buck. Then again they all do it. Any over cost results in a cut somewhere.

Toyota just sent me a survey so I filled it out and submitted it.

One question was: what is your favorite feature: Of course I said: V8

Then the next question was: What is your least favorite feature. And I said: No Drivers Side Grab Handle

Musta been on my mind. :)

The handle is as solid as the P/S.
SPARKS has the link for install but there were other good ones I found on You Tube, just make sure you look at the latest!
