While scrolling the Tundra Classifieds page of Facebook I found a seller who listed a dual exhaust kit that looks super similar to the TRD dual exhaust system as far as muffler length, flange connections etc. It is brushed stainless steel and has very nice welds, looks like nice fit and finish. I think I prefer the tips on this system to the TRD tips as well. He is selling them for $850 shipped to the lower 48. I was messaging the seller (Henry) about it, he is out of Texas. He seems to be a straight up guy who is confident in the quality of this system. He sent me some sounds clips and it sounds pretty much exactly like the TRD dual system I had in the past. I tried to attach it, but it won’t let me. It says the file doesn’t have an “allowed extension”. Maybe someone knows what I’m doing wrong. I may be able to share it some other way with anyone interested.
I’ve been considering going back to the trd system from my Carven exhaust cause I miss that low deep tone and the looks of the duals. I may go this route if My attempt at buying a used TRD system doesn’t pan out, (I think I found a nice local deal). Just wanted to share for anyone looking for the TRD sound, looks, and stainless steel without having to pay $1200+ for it. If anyone ends up buying it, Some feedback on it would be great. If I end up with it I’ll do the same. Here is the link he provided to the listing on eBay as well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/144318830441

I know what you mean. Loud exhaust is great when you want to hear it, but every once in a while I’m just not in the mood and it’s annoying. If the drone annoys you, you could try adding the dirtydeeds helmholtz resonator onto your tailpipe. My Carven had drone so I installed one and it works great. I just miss that smooth TRD exhaust tone though so not sure I’ll be keeping the carven.

That's a nice copy for sure but those pipes look a bit small in diameter or it could be I'm use to dual 3in here idk.

Kind of priced high for a knock off. Amazon had a TRD clone kit I purchased 3yrs back for $280 to my door that worked and sounded great.

I think they’re the same diameter as the TRD system. I think 3” is a but large for ideal flow and power, unless you’re supercharged. Being that it’s true duals the need for 3” pipe is even less. Was that other knockoff system stainless steel?

I have ARH LTs so 3in duals compliment my setup nicely per dyno results obtained with Deeds.

Those China systems always deteriorate in sound over time but who knows maybe this time they got it right.

I found a TRD system on offer up in my area for $300 last month. I couldn’t get out the door fast enough to swoop it up. I am very happy with the new sound.

That’s a heck of a deal! The TRD system really does sound sweet. I used to think it was kind of lame before I had it cause the videos do it no justice. The in cab sound of it is so smooth and just sounds great. If people have never ridden in a truck with the TRD they wouldn’t understand.

Yes I would be curious to know how the muffler packing differs from the TRD and if it will hold up. Henry said his intention was to mimic the trd design but improve on the sound, performance and looks. Sound is subjective and performance is likely negligible. He may have come through on the looks though.

I’m in the process of painting my TRD system before installing.

For reference, pipes going into mufflers is 2.25 inch and 2.5 inch after mufflers including tailpipes. Just measured today out of curiosity.

Compared to the replica, the TRD has those cone shapes on the incoming side - don’t know if they serve a functional purpose or not - and one piece tailpipes. The 2 piece replica tailpipes may offer more adjustability but every joint is a potential leak.

FWIW, Toyota parts is offering 15% off TRD stuff. That may bring the price off the original closer to the replica. No disrespect to the fellow offering the replica - just putting it out there.

I won’t be going with that system now. I just picked up a Used TRD exhaust and a set of 2019 LED headlights with the wiring harness for my 2017 for $850. I thought it was a fair deal for both!

Duals is too much area for a 5.7 tundra with stock exhaust manifolds and stock mid pipes. Running duals of any diameter gives you incorrect exhaust flow.

Do the same rules apply for supercharged 5.7s?

Sort of. This is going to sound bassackwards, but exhaust makes way less of a difference on a supercharged 5.7, unless you custom tune for it.

I’ve tested my 5.7 since 2013, it’s been on a Dyno probably 100 times. A couple times a week the first year I owned it. Here’s some standard exhausts I’ve tested:

long tube headers: with cats. Without cats. Stock cats. Metallic core cats. Metallic cats that were completely melted and blocking exhaust flow. Cracked stock cats with the biscuit turned sideways abs blocking exhaust flow.
    Stock manifolds
    Shortie headers.

ALL of the above runs 535HP 550TQ and an 8.2 in the 1/8 mile.

All that said, the wrong exhaust won’t change full throttle one single bit, as stated above. However, the other 99.0% of the time (when not full throttle) the wrong exhaust will suck to drive compared to the right exhaust.

the rules are very strict when naturally aspirated. Run stock manifolds or long tube headers.

stock manifolds really need to exit thru the stock tailpipe. It’s an odd size. When you deviate from that size you ruin the way the truck drives. Only the muffler is a restriction. Replacing it with a flow thru design gains 3-10hp and 10-20tq to the rear wheels over stock.

long tube headers improve performance dramatically. But the right exhaust can double the gains of the headers. I recommend dual 3” with long tubes.

Lots of great info for our reading pleasure, thanks for your valued input! With the supercharger I’ve been pretty pleased with my dual 2.5” in, single 3” exit system with a straight through muffler. I’ve found it pulls the hills in top gear no problem and doesn’t ever care to downshift. I am slightly concerned with giving up some of that down low cruising grunt if I switch back to the trd dual system I have sitting in the garage.
