    Good morning all,
I've got new fog lights on the way (BD Squadron Pro), and am looking for more flexibility with control than how I understand the standard "Anytime fog light" mod's. If I understand this mod correctly, I would lose the ability to turn off the fog lights if my high beams are on. With over 9,000 lumens in fog lights, I need to be able to control them all the time...

What are your thoughts on this plan?

    • Wire up the new lights with the factory harness via Baja Designs' pig tails.
    • Tap into the hot wire at the light and feed it from my sPod switch.

My thought with this plan is that I will have the ability to let the truck do it's own thing with the factory fog light switch, which will shut off the fogs when high-beams are on, as long as the fog light switch is on. My hope is that I can override this by flipping on the auxiliary switch and feed voltage via the sPod.

My question for those that are more savvy than me is: Will I screw something up by putting power to the factory fog light circuit that would otherwise be "Off"? I can't see an issue, but this is not my field of expertise. I appreciate any constructive input or feedback!

    Thanks,
    Chad

Are the factory fogs switched on the negative or positive wire? I can see that standing in my way…

Anybody have any thoughts or input? Parts are on the way, so hoping to get this figured out soon…. Thanks!

I can confirm that this mod allows your fog lights to be on or off with any light switch combination including high beams (and excluding 'off' of course)

Hmmm. If this is appropriate for a 2018 model, then I believe it would be perfect. I understand there were some circuitry changes at the ‘18 model year; anyone able to confirm that this mod works on an ‘18?

Can't help you there unfortunately as my truck is a 14.

OK. Here's my plan. Please shoot holes in it if you see something fishy!

To recap, I want to have 100% control over how my foglights work. If I understand correctly, the factory wiring utilized a switched ground for this circuit, so I think I can use a 5-pin relay to add a switch. This allows me to use my factory FL switch and let it all operate as Toyota intended, but with the ability to override via my sPOD.

    Relay pins configuration:
    85 - Switched +12v from sPOD
    86 - Chassis Ground
30 - Ground wire to fog lights
87a - Ground wire at factory light harness
    87 - Chassis Ground

With sPOD switch "off", the relay will connect the factory harness to the light ground via pins 30-87a. All functions will operate as original.
With sPOD switch "on", the relay will disconnect the light ground from the factory harness and send it to chassis ground via pins 30-87. This will turn on the lights regardless of headlight operation and keep all sPOD controls isolated from the factory circuit.

    Lika sooo:

Thoughts? Lights work like factory unless I want them different.
