So I went to my local Toyota dealer today and test drove their first 2022 Tundra today. I don't have anything bad to say about the drive it was fun and quick and quiet but I just couldn't justify spending the money they are asking. 50,000 for the base model SR5. I currently have a 2014 platinum that I paid 30,000 for 5 years ago. I think I'm going to wait a few years and see what the used prices do.

You could get more than 30k for your truck if you sold it now in my area. Lol

Thanks for the pics and report.

I'm going to hold on to my paid for 2014 for several more years.
Maybe find a new 1 or 2-year-old Gen 3 when it's time to buy.

It's nice to see that the SR5s have more option packages than they used to.
You can get an SR5 with fake leather, dual zone AC, and TRD suspension package.

That's good news because the 1794 we saw at the state fair this year is going for $65K.
No way in hell I'm paying that for a new truck.

I’ve gotten used to the front now, it looks better when they get rid of the chrome mustache in favor of body color. With a small lift and tires the front looks kinda cool I think. What I can’t get used to is the BACK! What the hell is going on with the tailgate and bumper and how it all integrates. It’s so busy and looks so hideous in my opinion. The tailgate stamping mixed in with the random lines and edges, it doesn’t belong on a truck. I think a truck should have a clearly defined bumper that is broken up from the rest of the body. That back of the 2.5 gen is much more attractive.

Curious what options you need to choose to get the fake leather in an SR5?

Given that it has the 14" screen, it doesn't seem like that's a base model SR5.

The more I see, the more I think I want to hug my 18. Front reminds me of a largemouth bass, the side profile seems to match my co-worker's GMC to the millimeter, and the back.. well.. no. The large screen is nice, and they seem to have kept it below the dash for full window viewing, but it seems kind of protruding to me. I had a 2014, 16, and current 18. Skipped the 2020 due to pricing, availability, and the idea that the new one was on the way. Still hoping to have my mind changed about the next generation, my 16 yr old has his eye on my current tundra as an off to college rig.

I’m going to have to take a ride around to the local dealerships to see there is anything in the showroom or lot.

Yeah inflation sucks! It's $36-38 for two ribeyes at the store. Haven't had a ribeye in months.

These prices aren't going away anytime soon. More than likely they will never go away. A 5-8 years ago you could get a solid mid trim vehicle for $30K-$40K range, just recently that got pumped to $40K-$50K range. Now every decently equipment vehicle will be $50K-$60K range. Shit, a two car household will be like carrying 2 mortgages. It's insane. I will be holding on to my truck until it doesn't pass inspection or they make me buy an EV

I asked that same question and they told me it's the premium audio package and that also included led lights in the bed.

I'm just talking about prices of used vehicles I know that new prices will likely increase every year. I also wouldn't mind waiting a few years for the kinks to be worked out. I personally will be super interested in the hybrid model.

I planned on buying one as soon as they came out, but decided to wait once I saw one. The pricing doesn't bother me so much, its more the looks of the truck. Pretty normal for a new model though, just have to get used to it so maybe I will love it down the road. When the 2nd gens came out, they looked like a spaceship. There was not another truck on the market that looked remotely close. To me, the new ones look like a Chevy/GMC from the side. I'll refrain from sharing what truck I ordered instead

The “fake” leather is SofTex and same leather that’s in the Limited. It’s part of the various premium packages offered on the SR5. It’s also the only way to get power seats in a SR5.

Many of us are cross shopping brands. I put a lot of emphasis on price for comparable trims. Hence, my 2019 Platinum, lol. Ford wanted way more for a similarly equipped Lariat at the time (negotiated price, not MSRP). I wonder if it's still the same in today's market.

It was some kind of softex something.
    I can't remember.
Do the build a vehicle on the Toyota website and you'll see it.

    Some had heated steering wheels.

I ordered a 2022 Raptor, have a client that owns a dealership and he is doing it for MSRP which is 68k. Flame away, I know its a total bro dozer. Probably going to need to buy some white framed sunglasses and start wearing backwards hats when or if it ever comes in. My thought is it will do very well as far as depreciation is concerned, and for the money is a lot of truck.
