So…I’ve noticed that the intermittent wiper function in my truck seems to work backwards compared to what I’m accustomed to. In ALL the other vehicles I’ve owned (that had an intermittent wiper function), to include 12 or 13 other Toyota’s, the narrower the band selected with the rotary dial on the wiper stalk…the shorter the duration of time is between swipes. Conversely, the wider the band that’s selected…the longer the duration is between swipes. This is the first vehicle I’ve ever owned or seen that works OPPOSITE of that. Toyota’s great about quality control and standardization so I’m sure it was designed this way, but it’s definitely odd to me. Anyone else’s truck NOT work like this?

I noticed that as well. Gotten used to it now. Just kept telling my self turn the dial up to go faster and now it’s second nature

Funny thing actually, I got used to this on my first Tundra and when I switched vehicles I thought the new one was wrong. I always saw it as bottom was level 1, then level 2, leading up to level 3 which would be the fastest setting kind of like on an old school lawn mower with the dial that you could set to turtle or rabbit.

I honestly don't know about the band/indications, as I haven't really ever paid attention to them, but in all my vehicles it's always been rotating up/forward for shorter a duration.

I just went out to the garage and looked. The bars and the functionality is the same in my Tundra as it is in my Highlander and my GS350. It's also the same as it was in my previous Tacoma.

Do you really look at the little bars when it's raining and you're driving? All the way forward is almost on full (no delay) dial it back to slow it down... (More delay)
It's intuitive. I don't think I have ever looked at the bars.

Maybe your other vehicles had it backwards and the Tundra is correct.

The trucks brand new so I looked at it the very first time I used them since the stalk was different, then subsequently looked at it a couple more times when it didn’t work as expected. In my other vehicles I don’t pay attention to it.

I had to add this stalk to my 2018 SR.

Between that and the variety of different cruise control techniques by so many different auto makers - can be very confusing and distracting.

Mines the same. I just figured the bigger bar means more wiping. The smaller is less wiping. More wiping = less time between intervals. Less wiping = greater time between intervals.

I wondered this too. I’ve had other vehicles where the more bars meant longer delay / slower wiping. This is my first Toyota so I don’t know if it’s just a foreign manufacturer thing or what, but I guess there’s not really a “standard”. I actually brought this up at a Toyota dealer once because I thought it was wired backwards, and they just laughed at me. As another said, it’s a first world problem. I guess it just depends on how you look at it (if you look at all): either shorter or longer delay vs. lower or higher frequency.

I believe it was the same person who decided the volume up button on the steering wheel should be at 3 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock. Because nothing says Crank it Up! like pressing right-button right-button right-button.

I have been scouring the Toyota forums for an answer myself, I have a 02 sequoia and a 10 Prius, the Prius is the reversed one of the 2. It drives me nuts when switching vehicles to adjust the intermittence of the wipers opposite. With other makes when that happens it's because of a couple wires being backwards on the motor or it is the wrong year motor for the vehicle. So I was looking for an answer to how to fix it but looks like everyone says "suck it up buttercup and deal with it"

This annoyed me as well until someone mentioned that it matches the head unit.
L-R volume and up and down for station presets.
