I have a good friend I work with, and even though we live 30 minutes apart, it's usually 6 months or so between my visits there. His German barks at me like he's going to eat me for the first 8 seconds or so when I come in the door, until he realizes who I am. Then he barks the same, but while he's going to get the ball for a good game. He's a full 120 lbs. of teeth and youbetterfuckingnot, though, for anyone really a stranger.

One of the coolest thing about dogs is the way they will protect their pack.

At Halloween this year I came downstairs wearing a large wig and sunglasses to surprise my kids. My 13 year old pit mix jumped up and positioned herself between me and my girls barking her head off. She was going into full defense mode until I pulled off the wig and glasses.

 

Lol, love this. I dont get to see it very often, but when he comes around a corner at a stranger it's pretty intense.

 

You know what my favorite part of working my schedule is? Standing at my window sipping coffee and watching the neighbours scrape ice off their cars before leaving for work.

 

Cop friend has a malinois as a partner and she lives with him his wife and their 3 y/o son. Few weeks ago cop friend and dog, both fresh off duty, come home to 3 y/o being a shit and wife upset. Friend goes marching back to kids room hollering at him to "come out here" (meanwhile stomping around in his uniform and duty boots) any guesses what happened?
Police dog chooses to protect the child. Bites her cop partner/handler/owner in the calf and puts him on the ground. First time in 5 yrs shes ever turned on him.
She did turn loose with the command from him.

 

Gotta protect the littles man. Regardless of who the perceived threat is.

 

Malinois are tough family dogs. I was down visiting Lackland AFB (they do their military dog training there) years back and ran into an Air Force Captain who had a Mailinois puppy. He said it had a heart defect that kept it kinda calm and told me that if it wasn't disabled, he wouldn't let it near my daughter (who was maybe 7 at the time) because they are so wired up. Really cool dogs though.

If we had a ranch, I'd have a Blue Lacy. I almost got one - the dude said the puppy's mom would go out and kill a wild hog, come home and cuddle with his kids. He also said she climbs trees if they have enough "lean". I figured they probably wouldn't make a good "downtown" dog.

Ugh. I've got so many pics that would fit right in here. We have three kids, oldest is 12, gsd we have two, oldest is 9. They've all just grown up together. Weve began to dread the day we have to say goodbye.

12 pages behind I'll never catch up. I'm sure it was all very insightful. My boss got the rona so work has been insane. Anyway we did a secret Santa at work. Whoever got me also gave me a gift for my 3 year old.
they actually put a real gift in the box but I nearly pissed myself when I saw it.

It sucks man. I cried like a baby. Haven’t got another GSD and probably never will. She has been gone since 2012. She provided everything we needed at that point in our lives but I don’t think we could dedicate the time/energy to another one to keep it healthy and happy. I never felt safer than when I had that dog close by and I carry almost everywhere I go. Like an extension of your senses and just as smart. She saved our ass a time or two. Also broke about 5 windows, a door, and a gate wanting to get somewhere.
