    Too many, but not enough....
usually its the belt itself when it squeals like that. Do you notice any excessive wobble in the pulley on cold startup? does the best seem tight enough?

Get a replacement belt. This has been a long time issue with Tundras. The fix was a Gatorback belt which is now branded under the "Elite" brand of Continental as I recall.

You can pick them up at your local Autozone for around $30.

Ill try belt first I guess. No wobble. Its not the high pitch like you mentioned @shifty` It usually last a few minutes. Dont get oem belt? Something else is better in this situation?

My thoughts it might be the idler pulley bearing or maybe fan bearing but it always goes away.

in the past on some of my cars its and old belt that needs replaced. since i’ve studyed a lot around here lately some have gone with a new green gates hd belt and in addition upgraded to the newer style acc belt tensioner made by toyoda. amazom reviews look good. some say its way thicker and heavyer.

a test is squirt some belt dressing on the fan belt while its running making sure not to chop yer fingers. if sound instantly goes then its a new belt needed. bonus points for tensioner upgrade. might help with better boltage at alternater to..

I have a 2000 Tundra. Mine did the same several years ago. I diagnosed the source of the noise by purchasing a can of CRC belt conditioner. After a squirt the noise went away. I drove for another 30k-40k miles until it was time to replace the timing belt, then replaced the serpentine belt at that time. IIRC, I might have given the belt another squirt during the 30k-40k. The can still sits ready and alert... just in case.

A quick check (not fix) would be to spray some belt conditioner on the belt and see if it goes away. If the rubber is hard, glazed or cracked it will make the sound go away temporarily. Then I would get a new belt and set aside some time to change it. Good luck!

Unrelated to belt noise, the Chattanooga Toyota dealer told me I needed a new alternator in my 2000 Tundra about 100,000 miles ago. Apparently, they forgot to tell the alternator.

Mine was doing the same thing, chirping bird sound that went away after I drove it a bit. I thought it was a pulley gone bad because when I checked the belt it looked great. There were no signs of cracking or anything. Pulled it off and the tensioner worked well, spun the pulleys and they sounded good. Put a New OEM Toyota Dayco belt on it and it fixed it completely. Real head scratcher. I am an OEM who-uh like many others on this forum, but wish I would have got a different belt. I was looking for the gator back, and didn't know about the continental deal. Bando makes a really good belt as well that can be had for dirt cheap on rock auto.

Belt is cheaper than pullys or an alternator.

I went through 3 OEM belts under regular and extended warranty. OEM is just a temporary fix. The right aftermarket is the one you want.

I would just go with everyone's recommendation on the Continental Elite belt which is supposedly a rebranded Gatorback belt. I haven't tried it myself but I can let you know when I do.

Inspect tensioner pulley, is it spinning? If not then it’s seized and will make the serpentine belt squeal.

Got a call from the mechanic. Just the belt! Also said brakes were good and put new boots on upper ball joints! Back in business.

Agreed. Its been colder here and thats how it started. However last week it never stopped. Wanted to get it addressed incase it was something more. I would have rather done it myself but two small kids and endless mandatory at work prevented that. Thanks for everyone input. I also got an automotive stethoscope out of it. Cheers

I’m completely sympathetic with your situation my friend. Very glad you got it figured out and resolved. My apologies for my comment which was actually intended to be a little bit humorous with some light innuendo.

Fyi...if you got the OEM belt, don't be surprised if it happens 30k-40k miles from now. You can change it yourself in about 5 minutes though.

Gates has a pully, tensioner and belt kit for like $80 on RockAuto. They are easy to replace, so I went Gates (made in Mexico) over OEM.

Replace the belt, and spin all the pulleys while the belt is off and check for bearing noise/wobble.
