The constant power I tapped on the trailer connection was ignition switched.

Oh really? From what little I know about towing there is supposed to be a +12v fused lead to the trailer for charging/power that is not ignition switched? Maybe yours is ignition switched? Was it a factory tow harness?

If we had ignition switched power accessible for 3rd gen Tacoma we would do a lot of fun stuff with it and some relays. As it stands, I believe we only have constant power back there to mess with (and no easy way to T that off either, a separate sort of conundrum).

My 7 pin is aftermarket installed by a shop when I added my trailer brake controller. It is ignition triggered, not constant on. Charging the trailer battery only occurred when the vehicle is running, wouldn’t charge by staying on when the vehicle is turned off.

Thanks for that info. Since I'm doing a homebrew for that it's helpful to know I wouldn't be completely off the reservation if I did something like that.

Wanting to do this. How well did the MLV and foam help quiet the cab from road noise as well as make it feel more solid? That seems to really separate these from newer Tundras.

I have not ridden in a new tundra but...when you look into this process and results you will find that some vehicles respond very well and some do not. I went the full 9 with cld (really used too much), then foam to decouple the last layer: the mlv. It was very time consuming at upwards of 40 hours. It had an effect but my guess is that these trucks are more towards the end of the spectrum of lesser effect than other vehicles. I also did cld above the headliner. The cab is quieter and more insulated as well. By how much?? I am not sure as I never made formal measurements. Would I do it again? Sure; I am bad news if I get bored so projects are good for me. If you really are interested in good acoustics/lower road noise then go for it. But for 95%+ of people, it is not worth it I would guess.

Does cld or mlv insulate against temperature to any noticable degree?

If I get a vote, I vote 3rd brake light.

The third brake light can save your precious 1GT from the [semi-negligent] Minivan Militia. The backup cam not so much.
I also vote you sell the backup cam and do it the old fashioned way, just back up without looking. Other cars have brakes too. :D
(I am in the backup cam deniers club tho. My wife's Audi has one and I never use it. I use the mirrors if I want to fly instruments only, or just turn my head...oft a combination thereof.)

Can’t see what’s immediately behind either of my Trucks. Hate to run over a kid, or a pole, or a dog. Also easy to tuck it way into a parking spot when backing in. Also hooking up to a trailer solo is so easy with a backup cam.

So far my 4 year old has destroyed hopes of truck work. 3 adults in the house and he can consume all of us somehow. Granted, I did have some real work today too. But if I get anywhere close to the garage he attacks and seizes the attention. Hah.

    Those are all renewable resources.
And if you're running over poles, it may be time to turn in those keys.

Looking after 4 year old neices and nephews for me was easy. Toss a Disney video in the DVD player, set to repeat and they'll be entertained for hours. Gave me free time to do projects with them in eyeshot.

Thanks, that's super helpful. I plan on doing all the same as it has made a difference in past vehicles. I also did the thing with too much butyl cld the first time. Luckily it's all not too expensive, but like you said, requires time. I've already had the whole interior out save for the dash to shampoo the carpet, so that part will be quick. Maybe I'll do a decibel reading before and after.

Get the 4yo to come in the garage and “help” you, get them involved young. Maybe for the next project they will want to come see what your doing and help. Hide some candy or tic tacks in the truck and make a game of it?

That's my hunch too but it's such a strange sound. Not a typical sound associated with air movement.

Yeah, I mistyped. I meant the booster. It's probably not coming through on the video that well, but it's definitely abnormal. Like a very fine clicking or creaking that happens when releasing the brake pedal and only when the truck is running.

It's the very fine 'clicking' or almost a creaking sound. It happens after the pedal is completely released and continues for a second or so. Only when the motor is running. It bothers me because everything else in my truck is super quiet.

Running. It only happens when the motor is running. Interestingly, it doesn't do it at all when its not running, even when the motor is first shut off and theoretically there should be some vacuum remaining in the booster.

Thanks all for the input. I'm going to look into the booster tonight and double check the vacuum lines to see if I can source it.

Definately a flutter, I can see how that would be irritating in a quiet truck. Good news is, a quiet truck makes it easier to trace.

Decided to spray fluid film underneath today for the 10 inches of salt and 1/2" of snow we're getting tomorrow.

I already have white tires driving through the supermarket parking lot since they salt before it snows.

yeah that’s the sound. It reminds me of when I had an inadequately powered amp in a car 20 years ago. When the voltage would drop suddenly with decrease in RPM, a small solenoid or circuitboard would make a similar noise. Anyway, with the Tundra I first identified it this morning at sunrise and I was beat. Haven’t even checked the basics. Slept today and back to work tonight so I’ll investigate and start with vacuum line, check valve, and booster checks.

He actually helped me sort and stock the order of terminals and connectors. And stuffed some of the plugs in the sidemarker caps for my headlight harness stuff. He likes squeezing the trigger on the terminal cutters. So, yeah, I got something useful out of him.

Nanny took him to the park finally so tackling the 3rd brake light because it'll just be way easier without the shell on. Looks like I won't be picking it up till tomorrow at this rate. Some photos soon, kind of overkill so far but that's sort of my game.
