First USA customer takes delivery of a 2022 Tundra

The "non work" truck 3rd gen has probably about 200-300 pounds more payload than the 2.5 gen "work" truck across trims, more horses and way more torque. Just sayin...

Oh, and in case people here are new to Tundras.com, the common refrain is you don't buy a truck for mpg's, you get a Prius, lol.

Correct in a way, but the consumers are demanding better gas mileage from their trucks. We want big trucks to carry around our family and a bag of mulch around

The Ridgeline is an awesome truck but doesn't help with testosterone deficiency.

 

Shapen Toyota in Marshall, TX got one in the other day and sent me pics. I’m sure it’s already sold but they were only asking MSRP. I had a great experience there when I bought my 21. has anyone actually seen what these tow hooks that toyota says are available look like?

where the hell are they going mount them and how are you going to be able to pull without tearing off the front of the truck

They removed them for better fuel economy is their line. I'd rather get .2mpg worse and they be standard.

Not like they used to. They typically say not to tow for the first 500-1000 miles and to vary speed/don't drive it too hard etc. But there are others that claim it's better to drive them like you stole it from day one.

 

I believe they do. I always do it when I get a new truck. This truck was driven from TX to CO so, it has already more than 1K miles, is ready to tow!
TFL was doing drag races with it against the Raptor

 

I think the break in on my 2019 also recommended keeping it under 50-55 the first 500 miles. They must have really backed up traffic on the interstate out of San Antonio.

You lost the V8 under the MPG banner. Ugly front due to MPGs. No tow hooks due to MPGs (I don't buy it). Played out Prius joke aside, it's a pretty pathetic showing, especiallyfor all the things sacrificed in the name of MPG.

I think this is more to keep up with the current styling trends.

 

The 5.7 V8 has just adequate power for my needs. Looks are the last thing on my list. I also don't care about tow hooks. MPG is low on the list but better would certainly be a bonus.

I want something to tow my 6k lb camper and gear in the bed, haul my 12' kayak and shit for home projects, run errands, etc.

My first mistake was buying the CM short bed. For any work, it's just really pretty lame. The 2.5 gen DC payload is not a huge improvement over the CM, but it's still better. So now, my decision is what DC regular bed with decent towing and payload to buy.

The New Tundra and the F150 look to be the two best choices for my needs.

Other than tow hooks, what makes the 2.5 Tundra a better "work truck" in your view? Also, what did they sacrifice for MPG, again other than the tow hooks?

 

Off the top of my head:

1. They sacrificed looks for aero (my personal opinion the truck is very ugly)

2. Loss of cabin space (MPG driven? I don't think Toyota has officially stated why).

3. Tow hooks (I don't buy it)

4. V8 option

5. Underseat storage (hybrid)

6. Larger tires in the off road trims (for better mpg rating) where Ford gives you better sizing options.


I would of went with 2 power plants like the big 3. The V8 would of been modernized to be more efficient (as much as possible) and power (small turbo?) And a V6 power option for the more efficient commuter minded.

 

I would of liked ti see the v8 kept as an option as well, if they would of switched that up to direct injection and given it the 10spd i bet it would do much better mpg wise.

 

I saw a video that said the air dam does not "lower" until you exceed something like 10-20 mph. (not sure of the speed or if it would ever deploy in reverse) So, if true, unless you are pulling someone in reverse in excess of that speed it should not be a problem.

This was supposedly so the foil doesn't get destroyed off-road.

 

Surprising if the cabin is really smaller since the truck is 1/2' longer and it's also wider the the 2.5 gen. That's my biggest complaint. My 2019 only has maybe 18" of clearance in the garage. It seems like it would also make it even harder to park and drive in the city. They get bigger with every change.

 

Unfortunately if I am reading things right it was confirmed.

 

Weird. But personally, it's not a concern of mine. I'm usually the only one in the truck and my wife when we haul the camper. Long past shuttling kids to soccer practice and we have a 4 door sedan for others.

 

It deploys at highway speeds only, so guessing above 50?
