I’ve never been a “hot hatch” fan, but the idea is wearing down on me, especially if I end up having to go back into the office someday and need a more fuel efficient daily.

It’s supposedly gonna be an AWD turbo 3 cylinder with almost 300 hp. It’ll make just about anyone into a hot hatch fan :D

I’ve been looking for exactly this (I could take or leave the turbo) for a couple years now, so I’m excited Toyota is actually making it.

Big question is: How much is it going to cost? If it breaks $30k I think I'd rather have another WRX.

Have you considered a motorcycle? :bikewheelie:

I like the idea that this will make it past 100k on the same engine

    NA Subarus all day though.

I used to have the Toyota Matrix, wasn't bad when living in Tucson and speed limits where 35/45. But out here in Texas is was lacking in power. Test drove the regular Corolla hatch a while back, its a 6 speed manual with like 170 hp. I entered the highway going 80 in 4th gear. It's a fun vehicle and I was trying to pick one up as my commuter. Than 2 years ago they teased the GR version. 100hp more, AWD, better suspension, a body kit, and other changes..... as long as the price isn't crazy. This is probably going to have you grinning from ear to ear every time you get in it! Doesn't help that @Squatting Pigeon and I keep each other up to date with every news feed we find

Look at the WRX with the Turbo 2.0 FA engine. Ultra reliable as long as you don't try to overbuild it. The flat-brim vape-bros are the only thing that will kill that engine.

That is the big question.... it was teased at around 33k, but you really should have many options to pick so that number shouldn't go up much. Subaru doesn't have a hot hatch and the new WRX does not have a good look IMO
But the older WRX hatch. Shit.... that is exactly what I want if it was affordable and not already driven like it should have been

I’ve heard that one is leaps and bounds better than the old 2.5, but I’m gunshy now…
Plus the WRX dropped the hatch. They’ve talked about it coming back in the new Gen, but unleds I missed it, they never confirmed.

Wife thinks that motorcycles are death machines. Plus I’m just uncoordinated enough that I probably really would kill myself on one. Especially in Phoenix traffic.

Everything I get serious about buying a motorcycle. I almost get hit in my bright blue Tundra. I then always start reconsidering and end up wanting my hot hatch so I have protection hahaha

True, you don't get the hatch, and I agree on the looks for the new WRX. You don't see it from the driver seat, though. Still, the pinnacle WRX for me was in 2017. They had ironed out the kinks of the new FA engine, updated the headliner material, and it was right before they effed the looks up in 2018.

    I might be a little biased because I had a 2017...

Texas is no better. Been there, and the drivers... well they get their vehicles in motion, but I wouldn't call it driving.

And WHY TF are there so goshdamn many Texas plates driving through Wyoming all the time?! And WHY are they only the asshole drivers from your state? o_O Is it some kind of new export that you guys are making profit off of?

Texans are a well travelled group for some reason. They’re the number 2 plate here behind AZ tags.

Fair enough. Texas would be scary on a bike. Some of the worst driving I've ever seen.

It’s a fight to the death, and if you don’t drive offensively here, you’ll never get to where you’re going.

Both TX and AZ pale in comparison to South Florida though. Holy :censored: those people can’t drive.

It’s really not bad if you make your way to the left lane and commit to going something like 10-20 over the speed limit.

There were plenty, and are plenty, of 2.5s that weren't hooned around in and effed up that didn't have issues. My brother's 2007 WRX had something like 130k miles on it when he bought it and it never had a problem. They only started grenading when people tried to run them like a rally car.

True there is risk, but you could have a stroke or aneurism during sex. You gonna quit that too?

Death by snu snu is preferred. I’ve never been a big bike guy though, always preferred 4 wheels, so it’s not really something I’m missing.

Though I dislike that state as much as anyone, their traffic isn't bad. Driving in LA and such was no big deal. It's just done 10-20 MPH faster than anywhere else. That's it. They used blinkers, let people merge, and were generally decent drivers. The Texas asshats have cut me off, swerved between lanes when there's not another vehicle around them, and gotten stupidly aggressive when you got to pass them while they are going below the speed limit.

For driving, I'll take a Californian any day, but they are deficient in other ways that make them unpalatable.

I can’t speak much on to turbo 2.0, but everyone I know that had the old engine (babied or not) had major issues around the 100k mark. One grenaded at 65k, but to your point, that particular one was a shoot-flames-from-the-tailpipe sort of hoopty.
