I wonder if any of you guys have a solution for an inexpensive alarm that will page me up to a 1/4 mile away?

My cats got yoked a couple weeks ago. But I couldn't sleep so I have a jimmy rig plate (an old road sign) I cut and pop riveted to the bottom of my truck to protect my Cats from being stolen again. I have to park out on the street and some times quite a ways from my place.

VH has a long waiting time so I found and ordered a Desert Eagle plate and got it in 4 days. Nice! I'll install it this weekend. I know nothing is fool proof so I also installed a remote driveway entry alarm from Harbor Freight on top of my plate with velcro so I can easily change batteries. If the plate moves or is lowered, a door bell will ring in my bedroom. Problem is it's battery powered and only works up to 400 feet away.

I'm looking for something that I can wire to the truck batt, and sends a page to a remote in my bedroom and cost $50 to $150. Short of a full blown car alarm, I just want something simple(r) if possible. I've looked at motorcycle alarms but...
If it were a car alarm, I would need a wire for a switch like door open/close that the plate would be in contact with.

I wonder if any of you innovative guys or alarm specialists have any suggestions?

Just off the top of my head, some contact sensors might work. One connected to the plate and the other to the frame or adjacent location ~ in proximity. Wiring a module to the truck (power) that can signal an app or alarm.

Or motion sensor but could get tripped on with critters or leaves and such. Also to activate when truck is off only....?

That's what I'm looking for is a module that would sense a switch open and then send page. The motion sensor I have up there now on the top of the plate is protected from critters. I'd say off only otherwise I'd be moving.

    Too many, but not enough....
Your best bet in my opinion would be to get your VH shields on order and wait and get some security bolts to compliment. The desert eagle is only half of the job, they will still be able to get to your rear cats. Pretty sure the best your gonna be able to do is to put a bike alarm on the exhaust pipe that will go off and hopefully scare them away or alert some neighbors.

How about placing a legit looking sticker on the skid plate that says, something to the effect of, “alarm will trigger if shield is removed”? Hopefully those dumb fucks can read right?

12V source, capacitor, relay(s), remote switch, and ignition coil might be a better way to deal with this.
