After refueling, as I started back out toward the road, my travel trailer brakes locked up and I got this message on my dash “TRAILER WIRING, TYPE OR CONNECTION FAULT…”
Nothing in the manual or online explained how to remedy this. After long search, I found some wires on the trailer that were pinched against the frame, grounding it out I suppose. Threw some tape around wires and away we went. All good except now, I have no brakes at all. The trailer brake controller doesn’t light up, doesn’t work at all now. Did I short out the controller? I have looked at all fuses labeled tow/brake and all good?
I hear maybe I need to check “ecu” fuses but also this may be an issue with Toyota factory brake controls

    help!

Do a quick check of any related fuses on truck. Under dash and engine area. Could have easily popped a fuse or two with the trailer wiring problem.

You know you have an issue(s) with the trailer wiring, so continue to look over and test those circuits on the trailer. There could still be problems.

Agree with checking all fuses; if all fuses are good remover the battery cables and clean them and the battery terminals really well. That's a known issue as well
