I need some help. My family is trying to convince me to trade in my great 2016 sr5 crewmax and get a fuel efficient commuter car. My 2016 sr5 crewmax 49C7A731-3C7A-4C59-9C39-694298DBFFF2.jpg 2382C88A-D5A0-4CB7-B426-6A13C0333DB1.jpg 1B092D59-DB38-47B5-A577-51396CF84E9E.jpg has been well taken care of and did various modifications to keep it looking stock. I have put katskin seats in, qi charger in armrest, pop n lock for tailgate, remote starter, 20 inch rims and tires, led lights inside and outside, Linex the bed, bakflip hard tonneau and color matched hood bump and grill as well as trd rear sway bar How much is a fair price for my crewmax with 53,600 miles. I think somewhere 35k or more. I just don’t really want to part with my truck. How much should I hold out for? Please advise asap

Great time to sell if you need to. As far as advice goes, depends on your financial situation and how much you need a truck. Good luck my friend

Ask original MSRP + Tax/title/delivery, + reimbursemnt for upgrades, + reimbursemnt for cleanliness, + reimbursement for toyota, +reimbursesment for the things you cant carry/tow after selling, + infaltion compensation, + chip shortage surchage, + no dealer vehicle availability surcharge, + Markup that dealers charge for any vehicle they can actually provide. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........

Like maybe $115,000 obo. Or adjust 5% for your local market variation.

    Do what you want...
    I love my 2014 tundra.
95% of the time it's just me in it, 5% me and the wife.

If it fits your needs and you can afford to keep her, then keep her.

Good luck fitting those 4X8 sheets of whatever, those 2X4 by whatever, or those 10 bags of mulch from Lowes into a commuter car when you need it..

    I can't imagine not having a full sized pickup...:eek2::thumbsup:

I would keep it as it is your decision and your truck, but If you do want to sell it, Carvana has been paying pretty good prices, and much more than what a dealer would offer for trade.

Seems weird to me that your family is trying to get you to sell your truck. My family (kids in particular) LOVE my truck. They ask to take it everywhere we go.

Is it a strain on your household finances?
Have you grown bored with it?
Do you simply not need a truck?

I’d hate to see a fellow man “yes dear” his way out of his truck if he loves and/or uses it, unless the answer to one of the previous questions is yes.

    I agree.
If it isn't a financial burden and he needs/wants the Tundra, keep it.
I can do a lot of 'yes dears' but she isn't telling me what I can and cannot drive.

If I had my way, my wife would be driving a Toyota or Lexus SUV.
But she refuses and drives a Cadillac (her second one), preceded by 2 Volvos and a Lincoln.

    How much do you drive?

I don't think prices will ever come down, I think these prices are the new norms...or at least that's what the dealers are gonna try for.

I did the Kelly blue book cash offer on my 2019 Tundra and got more than I paid for it. Dealership took care of all the paper work and no hassle of dealing with casher checks from personal sale. Sister used CarMax on a 2012 Forester and got $11k for it. Great time to well if you can....or want to

After years of driving a truck I cannot imagine getting into a car, much less a 'commuter car'.

I traded in my truck for a SUV one time. It's in the top ten mistakes I've made in my life.

Remove anything and everything you can (if you still have original parts) and sell them separately. You'll never get your money back on mods.

If it is the only truck in the family, getting rid of it would probably be a mistake. It is my opinion that every household should have a pickup but I also recognize that everyone's circumstances differ.

I put about 7k a year on my truck (my 10 year old 2010 had 77k when I traded her in).
If I traveled farther and didn’t need a truck for business, which I don’t, I would definitely have a more fuel efficient vehicle. Would rather more cash in my pocket than in my tank. But I also love the room inside my Tundra, plenty enough for family.

My family and I love the Tundra. We only average about 6 to 7k miles a year on it. But it is by far the most comfortable vehicle we have ever owned (1st/2nd gen Tacoma’s, 1st/3rd/5th gen 4Runners, RAV4, Highlander, Honda Accords, Ford Exploder, Camrys, Corolla). Vroom offered me exactly what my OTD price was and my wife said “don’t care, we’re not getting rid of it”. I have a RAV4 as a commuter car because unfortunately where I work vehicles get destroyed. If I couldn’t afford a commuter car I wouldn’t be able to drive where I currently work daily.

I traded my 2014 in for an upgraded 2018 and I think my 2014 had better throttle response...but other than that I love the 2018.
Gas prices are not going to come down anytime soon...and that would be my only reason to trade mine in.
If you love it, keep it.
If you don't love it, then let it go to someone that will.

What a weird thread. Some random dude asking advice for a family situation, with no context.

Do you. Do what’s best for you and your family. If someone needs to drive a truck to be whole they may have issues.

No way after owning a truck can you go back to some little commuter car (muscle cars excluded) and not miss your truck. Every household needs a truck.......

It cost me 1000 a month to keep my truck on the road including gas

    I am ok with that

I could cut 75% of that in a minute but I like my truck

I dont smoke, drink or do drugs. I work 60 hours a week and I like my truck

I figure gas is still cheap compared to the extreme price gouging going on in the new/used vehicle market now. I'm holding off on any big purchases until this economic melt-up implodes ... who knows when that will be, but this nonsense can't go on for too much longer.

If I needed a 'commuter' I guess I'd try to find the oldest/cleanest compact I could get for <$10k and not look like a meth head, and still hang onto the truck.

Is your truck paid for? Are you going to make payments on the so called fuel efficient vehicle? Now with that said, calculate your fuel expense vs making payment and fuel for another vehicle. I own my truck outright and $120 CAD a week in gas is steep, but also having a car payment and $60 cad in gas a week.
