Nice, are those the Barnes ones? Going from the carriage bolt head to regular head would just want some 'slide' protection for them.

Possibly useful advice for people installing the engine skid; especially if they're doing it alone.

This is a minor difference from the instructions @3rdTundra was kind enough to put together. I installed alone, so I was head toward the back of the truck wrangling the skid into place, and couldn't get the nut on the 4" bolt that goes up through the post in the skid and frame crossmember. It just wasn't working out. This particular point of installation is a PITA, and there's no way to avoid it.

Prior to positioning the skid for mounting, if you wiggle it in just right, you can put the bolt down through the frame crossmember so the head's on top and the nut goes on the bottom. In order to get the bolt down through the crossmember, you'll have to pull the washer up against the bolt head and hold it there while you wiggle the bolt in. You'll be working from the front of the crossmember, and you'll need to point the bolt head toward the front passenger corner of the truck. Still a PITA, but not a PITA while you're trying to lift the skid into place. Once the bolt's in and you push the skid onto the front tow-hook bolts, a little care as you pivot the post up toward the crossmember will find that bolt falling into the hole in the post on the skid.

My 'shallow' socket still leaves the edge of the nut shy of the edge of the socket, so I pushed a little piece of corrugated cardboard down into the socket to raise the edge of the nut proud of the edge of the socket, to ensure it could grab threads. That trick plus your 6" extension (unmounted from the ratchet) lets you thread the nut onto the bolt, at least up to the teflon lock.

In this configuration, bottom to top, parts are nut, skid, crossmember, washer, bolt head.

    I hope this helps someone.

Yes, now that you mentioned it, they are from Barnes. You can also add security by using Skrewd bolts that use a bit key instead of a regular bolt head. That’s what in the pic above.

No disrespect but I don’t think it’s fair to Tyler to ask for a BF deal on items purchased weeks ago. I understand wanting to save money but he does not make much on these plates as it is. Get the deal on any new order but not ones from some time ago. Just some friendly input.

Yeah, more of what I meant is a decent deal on the front, since I have purchased 2 of 3 already, but haven't yet received.

@Classy63, When does he get more powder? We are pushing 2 months now for getting the correct length powdercoated aluminum Z brackets so I can install the plates sitting in my garage that I ordered in May. I have been Mother Teresa patient here but I need to get these plates on for my peace of mind. What is the new ETA on my brackets?

    hi @Classy63 ,

fedex finally drop off my order today but i only got the front plate and missing the rear. Order #:R487017788. I'm curious if you mistakenly sent only 1 plate or did fedex screw up and only dropped off one.

    thanks

My fed ex isn’t working right now, but there is very likely another package that didn’t make it to you yet. I can tell you by looking at your order, I did send to plates

The tracking number I got has a weight of 12lbs. Did you send both plates under 1 tracking number? If you did, I can try calling fedex tmr and ask wth is my other plate.

    *edit*
ah f. the tracking number isn't showing up on fedex now...

I sent you a message with your tracking number for the other package

JUST FYI! The site doesn’t allow me to add 2 tracking numbers, but I do add the second one in the notes

Update on the reason why I placed my order. Ended up they cut off one of my father's and almost started the 2nd before being scared off by a neighbor. He had the replacement covered by insurance. Few days ago they came back and got the other original, leaving the aftermarket replacement. I guess the aftermarket isn't worth as much to them (price was ~$1,300 still)?

Anyway, mainly posting as a nudge to those who are still on the fence. I'm still lucky enough to have mine yet, as he parks in the alley behind the house and I park on the street in front. I'll be getting my trans serviced next oil change which is a bummer to have to remove it quickly, but still hoping I get mine soon to install.

For those who are installing the plates with CaliRaised sliders here is how I modified the 1/4 aluminum rear clip. The thickness of the aluminum made it too difficult to use the bracket as made so this has been cut and a new hole drilled to accommodate the frame clamp bolt for the slider.

    Not enough
I got got last weekend while at work. They hit me in the parking garage at the hospital I work at. It was day shift (7am-7pm) and I was parked on the 3rd floor.
What really sucks is that I was looking at Tyler's plates earlier this year through a group buy with SATC here in San Antonio, but I never pulled the trigger. Between steel prices going up, shipping, and $450 for an exhaust shop to weld in an aftermarket cat, that hesitation cost me way more money in the end, smdh. Well those reasons and the fact that there's now a front skid plate that I couldn't pass up, lol. At least I got the black Friday discount :spending:

I actually like this. I have a large chunk of Z brackets that won’t work for anything but sliders. If anyone would opt to have those instead
