So the Packers are out today with a new share offering.

Basically $335 to say you are “part owner” of an NFL team. You get a piece of paper and an invite to the yearly shareholder meeting as well as exclusive access once a year to some exclusive stuff.

What you don’t get is any real return on your money, the ability to resell (only transfer to immediate family member per NFL bylaws) or any real benefits of ownership.

Still - for Packers fans this is a long-standing tradition thing I guess. I can remember a friend buying shares in 1997 - they did another offering in 2011 I think.

So offering is something like 300k shares - at 300 a pop that’s a cool 90 million raised and they give up nothing.

Not a fan of the team myself but bought my share in memory of a friend who passed who was a massive fan. I’ll put my share in a frame probably and think of him every time I pass by it.

Kinda wondering how much more they could have raised if instead of paper shares they issued NFTs or something. $300 sounds insane for a piece of nothing aside from bragging rights and ability to show up to a shareholder meeting if you happen to be in WI - but make it an NFT and people woulda paid 3k speculating.

I mean if you're a fan I guess. But not making anything as a shareholder...

Check the build link in my signature.
The '97 offering was used to finance a big expansion to Lambeau Field. It was after their Superbowl XXXI win. I was going to college in Milwaukee at the time - the whole state went nuts. You could buy a piece of sod from the "frozen tundra" with that share offering - I had a roommate that kept his in the freezer, and framed his certificate along with his letter that stated his "place in line" for season tickets (it was over 100,000 - you can will your spot in line to your next-of-kin).

My parents are huge fans (my dad grew up only a few miles from the stadium on a dairy farm, and my mom hails from closer to Madison). My brother has his certificate from the last offering they did. I guess I could say I'm a fan (if I was to pick a team), but I haven't watched a football game in years... meh.

You're not wrong, but that's the standard response to anything Packers from someone who was born in IL. LOL
