After what seemed like it was becoming a long and fruitless search I finally found myself another Toyota 4X4. It's not a Tundra but a pre Tacoma '91 Xtra-cab SR5 4X4 with a 3.0 V6 and 5 speed. It has a sunroof, center console and it's white with a blue cloth interior. It has almost 141K original miles. It's in really good condition but could use a good cleaning. It has a solid service history and also using mostly OEM parts. Even the A/C still works!
I bought it from the original owner's son. The son inherited it and only had it three years. He decided to sell it after his own son moved off to college and didn't want to take it.
It took me over three months to find this truck. I found other Toyotas but I would lose out only by minutes after the listings on CL would publish. It's a crazy market here in the Portland metro area. All the good deals would get snapped up almost instantly. I wasn't exactly the first responder on this truck but I could make it sooner than anyone else since the seller was selling, "first come first served". I just brought it home a few hours ago. This is a much better fit for me since the Tundra I used to have was just too big for my needs.
Photos to follow in the near future.
Oh by the way, does the "white color make it faster" rule apply to these older trucks?:D

Nice find! Great looking little truck!
Had a couple of them over the years and loved them, never a V6/MT tho, always 22RE/MT.
I never had any faith in the 3.0, I repaired lots of head/ h.g. issues on them when I was turning wrenches.

I've heard about the head issues but I recall the dealer fixed them for free in the 90's. My father in law has a 92 w/ 3.0 that he's had since the mid 90s and they did the head gaskets for free. Maybe mine were already done but I haven't found that record yet. The timing belt will have to be replaced since it was last replaced over 20 years ago at 79K miles and it now has 140K.

I drove a 92 w/ the 3.0 to almost 300k. It needed the head gasket recall and the steering part recall was a problem on mine. The steering actually broke, thankfully on a driveway at 5mph, then I got the recall notice so Toyota reimbursed me for the repair. The steering one is pretty serious, a part snaps and no steerage. As I recall, when one turned it to the locks, it applied too much pressure and over time some snapped. Be worth some snooping I think. No idea if the steering issue applies to the 91.

Great truck, If it's gone 140k it's one of the good ones and will probably go for a long time to come

My neighbor had a 1990 SR5 xtra cab 1 ton . He had it setup with a 5th trailer hitch, and tow a 17th trailer. When he sold it 20 years later, it only had 30,000 miles on it. Someone got a great find. The key to long life for these trucks as I remember, was to change the timing chain every 100,000 miles.

I noticed some steering part was repaired at one time with a n/c on the service order.

I think I got it for good deal considering how prices are currently, especially for such a well maintained truck and the amount of miles it has. It's also originally a So Cal truck so there's absolutely no rust. It's never been in any fender bender and the paint is original as well as the decals.

I just ordered a timing belt for it. Only $29.50 delivered for a genuine Mitsuboshi belt. I also looked at the the work involved and it looks fairly simple compared to any belt job I've done recently. I still have my shop manuals from my '89. I think it's all the same.
I'm also looking into a cat converter test pipe. The cat is too easy to get to and I'm afraid of losing part of my exhaust system to thieves.

I took a look at the timing belt over the weekend and it looked perfect. It looks like it was replaced not too long ago. I could have replaced it with another couple hours of work but decided to hold off a year or two.
It's one of the easiest timing belt jobs I've seen in a very long time.
The 3.0 although slow compared to current trucks is still noticeably more powerful that the 2.4. I can keep it in 3rd going up my hill where I need to downshift the 2nd with the 2.4. It's also quite torquey. I also found myself wanting to shift again after 5th. It could really use a 6th gear.
