I'm not sure if there is already a discussion on this but i installed a Bilstein 6112 and 5160 with front arms. Setting is at 1.9 in front

I'm wondering what tire size i can put on now, that being a bigger tire but not to the max.
I like a narrow a tire but one that gives me more clearance.
Thanks all, this forum is awesome and i appreciate all your the advice. :) :benchpress:

    Assuming you’re on 18” wheels - 275/70 (33”x10.5”) , 285/65 (32.5”x11.2”) , and 285/70 (34”x 11.2”) are some sizes to consider. Very limited selection of 285/70.

Yes I have 18 inch wheels on. With all those tire size, there would be no rubbing ?

    Thanks

Any increase in tire size could require you to bend or trim the stock splash guard. I had to do mine going up to 275/70 with the same lift. 285/70 might require removal of the front air spat and contouring the plastic fender liner but all should be minor driveway stuff.

285/75/18 on the stock 18” rim.

Everything will fit fine after you remove the outer wings from the factory skid plate (this will mimic the size of the TRD Pro skid plate).

You will be very happy with the look.

I’ll get under the truck tomorrow and snap a photo for you. I am sure someone else with comment what it looks like.
Yes, it still needs to be done with the bilsteins. This mod allows the wheels to turn lock to lock without rubbing.

21’s shouldn’t have the “wings”. Mine doesn’t have them, first thing I noticed when replacing it with the TRD skid plate.

@biebs96 - are you running the exact same setup? I need new tires soon and I was planning to go 285/70 because I figured 285/75 would hit at full lock and/or when articulated… you don’t get any tire rub ever?

hey @AZBoatHauler check out my build thread. But to answer your question, and clarify it for others in the thread.
    Current setup:
5100s in the front (middle setting)
    Factory rear, plus 1” block
Stock TRD wheels, NO wheel spacers.
    Yokohama X-AT 285/75/18
    No front little mudflaps
    Removed skid plate “wings”

no rubbing lock to lock or during normal suspension travel and I can fit my finger between the UCA.

At least 100 discussions. Maybe 1000.

if OEM 18” wheels, with approximately 2” lift/leveling the max tire sizes you can run are 285/75 and 295/70 (without having to do some major cutting). Be sure to verify each tire’s specific dimensions because they can be different brand to brand despite having the same nominal dimension (285/75). I’m assuming “front arms” mean aftermarket UCA’s which will affect what tires can fit before you have to change wheels or add spacers. Take a pic of your hand/finger in between you UCA and current tire to see how much clearance you have currently. If you have a 275 width tire at the moment, upping the size to a 285 will decrease that space by approximately a ¼” (roughly ½” increase divided by 2). Going to a 295 will decrease the space by ½” or so. Again, these are nominal guidelines. Since you prefer a narrower tire look, I’d focus on 285/75 sized tires. Godspeed.

Thanks PermaFrostTRD,, Here is a picture of the space between my UCA s and 275/65/18 tires. hope its clear. The Bic lighter 1 inch thick

So how much lift did this suspension mod give me? 1.9 in front and back?

Just front - nothing in the back unless you added a block or extended shackle.

285/75/18 are skinny 35s which imo will be the best way to get 35s with not much work. But that size is all sold out right now. Im struggling to find some atm

Skinny meaning narrow? I might just put 285/70/18 for my studded winter tires and see how they look, I don't want to go to big either,

Yea. Most people who get 35s usually go with 12.5 in width. 285/75 are basically 35 with 11.5 width. but the 1 in helps avoid BMC and having to get a lower off set wheel

I agree, I does help with having a awesome look to the truck. On my side the set up I was actually looking for is a narrow tire, This truck will spend a bit more time in the bush than on pavement, narrow tire will help passing in muddy holes and hit solid ground at the bottom quicker. eventually maybe get more lift to it.

Those appear to be the stock UCA’s. You should have no problem fitting a 295 width tire there. It’ll be tight but it will clear. Obviously a 285 being a ½” narrower will clear as well. Good luck in your search.
If you’re gonna run studs, I’d find a 275/70r18 and go with that in the winter. Maybe the inventory mess will clear up by spring and you can get the tire/ look you want instead of compromising. Limited selection of tires to begin with in 285/70r18 and they’re VERY pricey.

here’s my UCA clearance with what I believe to be the meatiest widest AT tire in the 295/70r18 size: Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT

Hi I just did a bilstein 5100 on the top setting and added 285/75/18 tires to the stock rims. Based on posts in this forum I removed the front mud flap and trimmed the Sid plate and folded it back and I have no rubbing at all. Pictures show the overall look, the upper control arm spacing and the trimming of the skid plate.

i have those tires. So far I am decently impressed.
What psi did you settle on?
    2wd?
    Alignment specs?

also don’t forget to install the spacer washers for the bump stops that come with 5100s
