I did the TRD pro headlight swap and when I did I ordered the cheap JDM ASTAR turning signals for the front and I decided I wasnt satisfied with just LEDs in the headlights, so I ordered the components to make a patch cable with VLR-6 resistors and swapped out the 3rd brake light, Tail lights, and license plate lights with VLED bulbs. After installing my key fob is giving me problems. It doesnt want to unlock 100% of the time. I wouldnt think Id have issues with the VLEDs as many people have spoken highly of them, but its definitely something to do with them as it worked fine beforehand. Is there a compatibility issues between the VLED in back and JDM ASTAR up front possibly?

It’s the 3rd brake light. Change that back to stock and your remote should work fine.

I appreciate it. Guess ill see if theyll take a return on these high dollar bulbs and just try and not let my OCD flare up about mismatched bulbs.

Upon further inspection I found that it was my fault and VLED offers LEDs specifically for the Tundra.

Interesting, maybe a problem because your truck wasn't originally equipped with led fronts. On my Limited OR that came with the black front led lights I added an led bulb to the 3rd brake light without any operational problems. This was after I had already added the JDM front led turn signal bulbs.

I just recently added the Hirev Sports LED tail lights without any operational issues. No hyper flash signal issues.

They are not vehicle specific. Many vehicles use the same bulb numbers. In reference to the 3rd brake light that @Willard mentioned, its an interference issue between the LEDs and the key FOB. I don't know if it was ever resolved or not.....I never followed up on it. I have Vleds in my entire truck, but I turned the cargo lights off after I heard about the issue. IIRC, someone posted that they discussed the issue with @Headlight Revolution and that they used the GTR bulbs without any issues.

I initially bought them by just the bulb number. I ran into a thread earlier that described same situation and apparently VLED made an upgraded bulb to fight this issue. So I went back onto VLED website and searched for bulb through vehicle instead and saw they make one specifically for the 18+ tundra. https://www.vleds.com/vehicle-specific/toyota/tundra/2018/cargo-lights/921-36-w-t-2.html

Nice find! I originally bought mine using the list for the Tundra as well. These have been released since then so I see that it was fixed finally. I'll create a post with the link for the others that have had issues. Thanks again.

I rarely use my key fob, but I did notice this weekend that it did not work reliably. I swapped out for LEDs several weeks ago and didn't think I had any issues. Apparently I did. Thanks for the link to the VLED noiseless bulbs!

Are the headlights and tail lights on the Pro's the same as on the Limited's and Platinum's?

I've had the latest version of these in my 2020 for about two months now. They do not interfere with the key fob at all.

I actually installed the original set around Christmas, but they eventually failed due to a component issue. VLEDs warranty is awesome and they sent out a set with the updated component and no issues so far.

Vleds is an awesome company. They should start making their own light bars lol.

I've been known to be wrong but I believe the only difference is a chrome vs black housing that the Trd pro has.

What did you do about the 3rd brake light? I haven't ordered the updated ones yet as I don't see a offering in a red 921 that has the updated rf.

To answer my own question I forgot the 3rd brake light doesn't flash when unlocked its just the cargo lights so the 3rd brake light doesn't matter.

It was either in 2019 or 2020 (I'm being too lazy to check) that the TRD OR package added the black housing. I have them on my 1794 TRD OR.

Also had no problem with Headlight Revolution bulbs. They cost a bit more but seem to be of higher quality (I'm no LED bulb expert). I was really happy with their Morimoto puddle lights.
I have an HR LED in my 3rd brake light, no problem with the fob.

Exactly, the third brake light is never illuminated when you are using the key fob. I am using the one linked below with no issues

I'm not impressed with the lack of brightness on the non-RF Vleds cargo bulbs. I'm thinking about putting my Vleds high output bulbs back in and trying this with the tape .....

Speaking from personal experience with trying to get products certified against radiated emissions standards (EMI). I would not expect that to work very well. You are always better off eliminating the source of the EMI as opposed to just try shielding. Also you are covering part of the reflector which is not ideal IMO.

However, if you try it and it does work out, let us know. I wouldn't mind switching my cargo LEDs out for these.

Yup. I specifically got the TRD OR package on my 2019 SR5 because I wanted the LED headlights. Both the TRD OR and TRD Sport packages added the black housing LEDs, among other things.

Those are the bulbs that I was using before the non-RF bulbs came out. I still have them. The non-RF bulb output sucks compared to these.

I'm not surprised by that. I have the red version as my 3rd brake light and it packs a serious punch.
