This is probably a dupe but it is the first time I have seen this.

    https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1...he-tear-down/?sm_id=organic_fb_TTN_trueanthem

It is cools as hell, but sadly kind of pointless except on a very broad engineering level since the new Tundra looks like it shares zero parts with that generation truck. Also I don’t know that claiming the engine performs better than some of their new stuff is a smart marketing strategy as it sets a really high expectation. I hope they didn't want the truck back so they could see where to cut future corners as there is no sense making shit that doesn't wear out.

Supposedly the owner was a hot shot driver that put mostly all highway miles on it.

    Yeah, several threads already

I don't think it was a where to cut corners deal, just a product engineering overview, component variable and stress over that many miles. Few companies get that opportunity to see what happens after all the wear and tear.

I bet they were excited to tear it down and see everything. I would be

Confirms the dependability and reliability of Toyota... Hell, my 03 Camry is just breaking in at 250,000 miles!! Been my daily driver for years and planning to see 300-400k..Impeccable maintenance is the key!!
    1 million miles is insane!!

I don't think this is pointless. Not everything has to be about the new generation of truck. Plus this tear down was done five years ago in 2017... Don't think this tear down was done specifically for the 2022 Tundra.

This tear down is without a doubt valuable to me and other 2UZ-FE owners, and instills confidence in owners that the trucks will last. Some of us plan to try to reach one million miles just like this truck did.

Mike Sweers actually talks about this very tear down to improve the next generation Tundra. Look at his videos on YouTube on the 3rd Gen Tundra. I think it was with TFL. I would say go into the 2022 Tundra thread, but that is just a total shit show at this point.

Several decades ago Toyota used to do commercials celebrating hundreds of thousands of miles on a person's Toyota by featuring the vehicle owner and their Toyota.

If this is the same truck that I read about back when the owner was ready for a new one then yes it really had a million miles on it. The news ran a story on this gentleman and he was kind of hesitant to trade it in considering that the truck has held up so well for him. He did a lot of driving obviously, he drove mostly highway due to his job but it is just amazing that there is a vehicle that could make it that many miles and someone was able to do it all awhile being the only owner/driver. The story said that Toyota gave the owner a brand new Tundra for free to replace his truck even though he still wanted to keep his old one. Makes me feel good that I own a vehicle made by a company that has put a product on the road that is capable of this as long as you maintain it.

I think there was a second million mile tundra that was bought and serviced at the same dealership. It was owned by another hotshot driver. They made trips between Texas and the dakotas.

Sorry I don't have a link but I have also seen on facebook or instagram a while back that a 1st gen Tundra has also hit 1 million miles. It was an older couple who were doing overlanding things.

There are a few Landcruisers that have hit 1 million also.

An 3rd gen 4runners have an astonishing number of units with 500,600, 700K miles.
