I put a new windshield in once a year. Costs me $210 all in thanks to an autoglass insurance policy I get.

I was convinced the rocks hitting my windshield were coming from my truck. My wife thought I was nuts till it happened on a lonely dirt road with no one in front of us. I saw a rock kick up and I basically ran into it.

I have taken some good hits on mine with no big chips that have cracks. I drive 2 lane highways and hate it when people get on the shoulder to let you pass. If I can't get in the other lane to pass them I just back off. People driving on the shoulder or crossing over the apex is where I have received chips.

Multiple times I would be commuting with just cars around me when I would hear a pebble hit the windshield. It took me a while to figure it out but I put two and two together after hearing the rocks fly out of my KO2's when you hit around 35.

AZ is really bad for this. I think I have had a rock chip on each of my vehicles every year.

Around houston its horrible. Tons of tractor trailer traffic. The ports are graveled lots. Trucks get rocks in treads, trucks drive on roadways, rocks get thrown from treads. Seams like a solution could be found. Maybe glass manufactures lobby for graveled parking lots...

I go often on gravel roads, its a main strip than runs for hundreds of kilometres. rule of thumb for passing the vehicle in front, you get up and close to them, they get the hint and they pull on the side and let you pass.
Maybe not the best idea but I never had my windshield chip that often in so little time, it happened maybe twice with the Tacoma in 13 years.

Ill need ot reconsider my passing technique,

Batman900, I have driven Jeeps since 1975, I belong to many Jeep forums. The gorilla glass is NOT what it is "cracked" up to be! Super $$$$$$ and a fairy high breakage/crack history. FYI, if you do not believe me go to Jeep Forum, or any website and enter Gorilla Glass and see replies. Wranglers are very bad about windshields due to almost upright glass as were my many Model A hot rods
