When looking for our new home, it was a requirement to have a garage that would fit 3 vehicles.

When our realtor would call, the truck would go with to ensure it would fit. Sometimes the trailer(s) would come too.

This was a 24’ deep garage, so it met the criteria. I had just finished testing out the garage fit.

Are there any more posted pics of the door jamb stickers on 3rd gens? I'm looking specifically for a 5.5' bed crewmax or a 6.5' bed double cab.

Yeah, I go over my payload a bit, too. Axle ratings are just that: what the manufacturer says the axle itself can carry. I can think of a few 2nd gen Tundras sitting at or over their axle ratings. That's beyond my comfort level. The 3rd gen axle is rated for 480lb less; this makes me think that it is a slightly lighter duty axle and maybe weighs a bit less, too. The truck also weighs less, too (except the longer 6.5' bed crewmax).

On my 2nd gen, I can occasionally go 500lb over my GVWR and still be 450lb under my axle ratings. That is not possible on the 3rd gen, at least on the 6.5' bed crewmax. That buffer is not built in. This is the main bummer of the 3rd gen for me.

Maybe they did that to make people think twice about going over the GVWR?

    ok, salt into my wounds.....:(

    24' damn you

When we bought here, all I wanted was to make sure I have 3 car garage and that a CC tundra would fit, now my plans are foiled 15 years later:anonymous:

the front of my 3rd car is shaping up nicely though, here is my workshop man cave Ive made recently, its fully insulated, just got the R49 in the ceilings and the heater gets installed friday, went with a nice made in USA sterling 75K BTU. That craftsman 72" workbench is really nice!!

    just added the 43" 4K

Ha. Maybe so. There are many Tundras that have spent the better part of their lives over GVWR. Total speculation on both our parts; for me, it seems more likely that they used a slightly less overbuilt axle. Axles do contribute to curb weight. I don't know the weight difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen axles. I would assume that there is a weight difference, given the substantial difference in rating. I would find it odd that an axle built identically with the same bearings, etc, is rated for 480 lb less...

Thats a really nice setup! We have four of those complete ones at work. For the money they are a great buy! I have a 35 year old craftsman tool box on top of my snap on. Not nearly as nice as what you have, but you get the point about longevity.

24’ gets me a walkway in front of my truck. Had I purchased a long bed, it would have been very tight.

Guessing a 6” lift won’t be an issue….or 12” for that matter.

    Nice place.

Too bad. I am a life long Braves fan but they totally blew it last night. Think it will go 7 tho. Houston/Dodger should be a great series. My 2022 should fit (CC/5.5) but it will be tight only 17" walkway up front. Enjoy the game and good luck

No I don't. This year I purchased the tool box from "Chuck" and he was an engineer in that field. If I remember correctly he was a chemical engineer. We had plenty to BS about..that's for sure.

He was moving out of CO to a warmer climate and closer to grandchildren.

It's the weakest link on that axle... which in the case of the 3rd gen, could be the springs.

I've read about a fair number of axle bearing failures on the 2nd gen, but it doesn't seem to load related bit rather a tolerance issue. Never heard of anything else going wrong with the axle.

I have to admit that this one seems to work for me. I still think printing Toyota on the dash was a mistake.

We tow a 4900 pound travel trailer with 460 pound tongue weight. Rear axle capacity is a big deal for us. Our 2016 4X4 front & rear axle weights were close with trailer connected.
