Beliieve it or not,, older ICs tend to be more resilient than newer ICs.

They are less susceptible to ESD damage, use leaded solder to minimize tin whiskering, able to work over larger voltages and tolerances, designed with fewer supply voltages and have either less or no need for supply sequencing to prevent internal damage. The downside is you pay a premium for the product line since it doesn't see a high volume.

A lot of military tech is still partially running on 35-40 year old wire wrap gated clock designs with ICs because they just work (and also because nobody wants to touch it. lol)

Hello All! This may upset some of you, hell it def. upsets me! My 2003 1st Gen. has been sitting up for months. I blame my hectic work schedule but its my own fault, good news is I didn't sell it and it still runs like a bat out of hell! Been getting a-lot oof pressure to sell it lately with the market where it is and wanted to get some opinions and check in on how this market is for and original low mileage 1st gen. SC tundra... any feedback would be appreciated!

Im in Louisiana, profile pic is the truck. Quick summary... has 125k miles, 2003 Limited TRD 4x4 Tundra with 1st gen. SC... I'm about to leave for work but can post more when I get to the office.

you’re probably better off doing some work and looking at your local Craigslist, auto trader or nickels worth to see what similar ones go for and adjust accordingly

Yea, those are pretty rare so have never had any luck finding one like it that someone is actually willing to sell... but haven't looked in a while!

 

Curious, is the SC factory, port, or aftermarket?

"Low mile" in Bring A Trailer terms is like 5k-35k miles. "Low mile" in the average person's mind is 60k-80k miles, i.e. 'about half life'. We all know these Toyota 4.7 will go 300k-400k, so yes, from that Toyota drivetrain perspective, yours is "low mile" assuming you have meticulous maintenance records and it's up to current on that maintenance. If the timing belt hasn't been done in the last 8-10 years, for example, or you had no maintenance records, I'd be skeptical about the condition and wouldn't go above $10k. If you have meticulous maintenance records and the truck has no known issues ... depending on that SC and how/who/when it was installed ... $13-15k?

Just a couple of desert rats mozie-ing around the Navajo nation. Grand Falls (Chocolate Falls), AZ.

 

Its a factory TRD SC installed by local dealership when the truck was purchased new. I take care of my vehicles for sure, may have to dig up maint. records but honestly haven't had major issues so not much there. I mud raced and built my own race motors up to Super Mod. 1009 HP so most of the basic work i did myself as I trust my work more than some random mechanic.

Nope, not yet! @FrenchToasty and I saw some beautiful sediment layer hills off in the distance though, beyond the wild horses. Such beautiful land out here.

Couple places on my to-do list are Beartooth Highway up in Big Sky, Montana and that stretch of U.S. Highway 50 through Nevada into Cali. Talk about desolate. Of course, I want to do these on a bike.
