For starters, I am new here and I am a huge Tundra fan. Just sold my 2000 as I now have a 07. Plus working on my 2004 limited crew cab 4x4 that has a rotten frame. Yup, live in Canada.

I picked up a 2005 Tundra 4x4 with salvage title as body was damaged all around which was perfect for the complete drivetrain I needed for my 2004. Just finished swapping the bodies and everything went perfectly until I noticed one small connector that is on the fuse box in the engine compartment is different. The 2004 tundra has 4 wires. 3 of those wires goes to the alternator while one wire goes in the harness that wraps around engine and I don’t know where that one wire goes. Then the 2005 tundra has 6 wires. 3 of those wires goes to the alternator while the other 3 wires goes in the harness that wraps around engine and I don’t know where those wires go either. Because of this connector being different, I am at a major stand still and hope someone here might know the best solution to fix this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

Another way of getting an answer is, can you put a 2005 4.7 engine in a 2004 truck. And if so, what obstacles with solutions are there?

you will want to swap all the harnesses.. 05-06 have VVTI (more power) with difference ECUs and wiring all around for the 5 speed auto and the extra engine stuff...

if you like messing with wires you can do just the engine harness and repin all the dash stuff to the ECM and it should all work too... maybe need to swap charcoal canister too i dont know if the 04 has a evap pump like 05-06

thank you for this info which helps a lot. By the sound of it, the easiest solution would be to swap motors also as I have both motors still. Do you think the harness going to under the driver seat should be changed also?

You'll want to pick one complete system and go with it. Either the drivetrain and all associated harnesses out of the 05 or the 04. Many of the parts will interact, but not match exactly, some will not even exist on one or the other. They are on opposite sides of a refresh and equipment upgrade.

Personally I’d be swapping all the harnesses from the 05 into the 04. The extra power is worth it assuming you have everything.

I am guessing I would need to swap all harnesses that are in the 04 cab including the ECU? Wonder how much of a pain that would be.

It’s not a horrible hard job. Just time consuming.

It takes less time than chasing all the shit you're going to deal with if you opt not to.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, as someone who's done more than his fair share of drivetrain swaps. Always use the harness that belongs with the ECU, then adapt the sensors on the drivetrain to suit the harness.
