Probably. I didn't pay that much attention because the locker was the only part I was interested in (until I found out it only works in 4Lo).

If you got to sit and play in both cool I’ll take your take on it. But if you’re going on looks, they both look quality.

ok whatever you say, then you probably need to tell the owners manual people they have it all wrong then and go ask you where they are so they can diagram it correctly in the owners manual.

use to be the platinum and 1794 were the luxury trims (one with color matched and alot less chrome vs chrome galore). looks like they are trying to move the 1794 into a wider audience than before.

platinum is still staying pure luxury which for us is perfect for our needs.

I think the rear locker comes standard on all 4x4s. At least I saw the button for it in one of the pictures of the Platinum interior.

That is correct. TRD off road package has never been offered on the Platinum. Only on SR5, Limited, and 1794.

Or the truck’s whose door jambs we’ve seen are just optioned out to the max. 4wd, sunroof, steps, bed liner, skid plates, etc can make quite a difference. Or if the truck is bigger…like that 1794 CM with the 6.5’ bed had 1270lb on its door jamb.

We could add an ARB locker to our trucks for less than 3 grand. That's not really a selling point for me.

If it does, that's good. I thought I heard/read you have to get into a TRD OR or the Pro to get it.

That would match the Tacoma and 4Runner…the locker/crawl/MTS is only available on TRD Pro or Off Road.
Agree. I thought I would add one first thing, but the more I go off-road I’m not sure I even need one. ATRAC is awesome and works without slippage. It would still be cool to have.

Ok, maybe I was wrong. I went back and looked at the pics in that Car and Driver article and there was one of the Limited interior that clearly has 4wd and there's no button for the locker. So I don't know. Maybe a difference in the trims, maybe since they're preproduction one might have something it wouldn't normally, or not have something it would. Guess we'll have to wait to find out for sure.

Crawl mode and the locker are both part of the TRD OR package. No OR package = no crawl and no locker.

Ok 1270lbs is embarrassing, that won't work for a truck guy. That's less than a Maverick!

4 adults could be 1,000 so you can only carry 300 lbs in the 6.5' bed?

Toyota needs to break out of the hobby truck mentality

"Truck guys" can get the SR or SR5 to have a higher payload. Toyota knows that most buying the higher end luxury trims are more concerned with the comfort than the truck-iness of the vehicle. Those wanting a Toyota and maximum work capability are generally willing to give up the luxury items to get it.

1270 is also pretty on par with the top F150 trims, from what I've heard.

This is a pic from the Car and Driver article. You can't really tell the trim from the picture, but they have it captioned as the Platinum.

I agree for sure. Eaton also makes e lockers for toyota. But would adding them to a brand new truck void warranty? Honest question.

Agreed, I really don't understand people's fascination with a locker. In 25 years of driving 4x4's I have never been in a situation that I needed a locker. 4wd has always gotten me out of anything I needed. I'm not a hardcore offroader, but do use 4wd for mud and snow hunting and fishing etc and do drive some forest service type roads. I would be willing to bet that 95% of the people who buy these trucks will never turn the locker on. I would've rather had the auto 4wd option than a locker. When is a locker preferred over 4wd? The only use I can think of is for the last little bit of traction when 3 wheels turning gives you just enough traction to get moving. I wouldn't be surprised if it only works in 4lo in order to limit the number of people that damage their trucks by trying to use it when they shouldn't.

A common expo rig/overland build can be easy 1,000-2,000 lbs before adding people and pets.

I would guess they got the trim wrong based on the package breakdown from way earlier in the thread. However, it is from a Canadian order set up, so it is possible that the US trims will differ. I doubt it for the options in question though.

My needs are entirely around icy intersections in the winter. If the Tundra had either 4Auto or a locker that works in 2Hi, that would work for me.
