I'm glad the dealers around here don't try to pull that shit. At least they didn't when I bought my 16.

Total rip off. I would never sign for a truck with any add ons, period.

My Avalon had a "GPS Recovery System" on it. I did a google search on it's rating and they were horrible, so I told them I didn't want it and wasn't going to pay for it. They said, well it's on there we can't take it off. I'm not paying for it. Ended up agreeing to not paying for it and I could use for a year if I wanted for free. I've not bothered with it.

Supply and demand: chip makers will start filling the void before Q4 ends. Plus, auto demand lessens in winter. By spring, supply issues will be a thing if the past IMO. And in no world is a mass produced Tundra worth $5K-$10K more than MSRP IMO. I’m sure people will pay it, and scummy dealers will happily cheat them. Shame on the dealers. Happy I have my 2017 and can see how all this works out. I do like the redesign a lot. Not sold on the 3.5 TT yet but if anyone can do it, Toyota can.

It’s not really scummy it’s business. Less allocation = less sales. They have to sell less at a higher price to make up for missing it out on volume.

What is scummy though is advertising one price and then trying to sneak that $5-$10k in once you arrive

When I bought my truck I just told them I am not paying for any of those things. I am for sure not paying for nitrogen in my tires. I started negotiations on the MSRP before the dealer mark-up items.
The market was different then (2018) so I know that there is less negotiation opportunity now. But still say no to the nitrogen charge.

Depends on dealer. Has nothing to do with Toyota. A lot of times those add ons are just away of adding a market adjustment without blatantly saying market adjustment. $100 worth of stuff for $2500.

That’s not even the worse one. Boerne Ram in SATX had 8k in dealer add ons. In the list was bed liner for $999 and running boards for $899. I was like it says on the window sticker it comes with those wtf lol

Someone will pay for the extras. Same thing happening to home buying...people offering crazy amounts over asking just to get considered and still losing the house to a crazier homebuyer paying more.

The chip backlog seems to be be because cars and trucks use ancient chips and chip manufacturs don't want to invest in new equipment to make ancient tech. To top it off vehicle manufacturers placed orders at multiple suppliers to try and lock in any chips available. This creates a higher backlog than true demand. Not sure how or when the cycle ends but someone is going to pay.

mine of the reasons I’m waiting until the market cools down. If I walked into the dealer and asked them to place an order for a specific truck without add ons and they insisted that nitrogen filled tires, gps tracking, fabric and paint protection are a must I’d be heading for the door.

We just bought my wife a new Lexus and they added 99 for nitrogen. I told them to let it out of the tires and fill it with air. They took it off.

Nitrogen filled tires is such a huge scam. I use to own a tire shop before I became a Toyota Tech. We had a sales guy come in one day and was trying to sell us a nitrogen filling station. He when through his sales presentation at the front counter in front of the customer waiting room. One of our good customers was waiting for his vehicle to be completed and I asked him after the presentation if he would be willing to allow me to charge him to fill his tires with nitrogen. He replied “I would be taking my business somewhere else”. I asked the salesman to leave.

You got toyota dealers that add on tint, plastic wrap toyogard, nitrogen tires, keyed locking lugs, pin stripes.... soon as you start seeing those things go somewhere else. in a hurry.

I don’t think it’s bad to fill with nitrogen. The pressures as I’m told stay much more consistent. But, the price would have to be cheap and even at 10 a tire most people would say no to 40 or 50 bucks. Me being one of them. For a dealership to try and scam someone out of 250 is just pathetic and would absolutely make me get up and leave.

Nitrogen fill-up is free at Costco. Also, nitrogen makes up 78% of our atmosphere so it seems a little disingenuous to charge for it.

Do not buy any vehicle from this dealer, ever!!!

It's one thing to get gouged by a dealer for nitrogen or tint. That's just money.

What you need to be worried about is the "GPS RECOVERY SYSTEM". Here's why:
    • It's redundant to Toyota's included Connected Services
    • You have insurance if the vehicle is stolen
    • No additional insurance discount for having 2 "GPS recovery systems"
    • Even if you paid cash, you give the dealer the ability to disable your vehicle whenever they want.
    • They monitor other things like speed, trip history, etc which can and will be used to void your warranty.
    Here's the main reason why.
    • They take your vehicle and tap, cut or splice your factory wiring harnesses; and it's not done by anyone with any particular experience or skill. Think lube technician level employees or intern.

I lived this nightmare on a roadtrip. I declined this at the finance manager's desk but didn't think anything of it. 1 year old truck just stopped running, pulled over, won't crank. Get towed to the nearest local dealer, they tell me my wiring harness had been modified and it wasn't covered under factory warranty because it's a 3rd party system.

Long story short, $7500 in parts / labor and 2 weeks later my truck was fixed. Also had hotel expense during this time; think $100 a night for 14 days. Also burned all my work vacation over this nonsense. The selling dealer, scammy gps recovery system company and nobody would reimburse for their shoddy work because their "factory trained technicians" didn't do the work that were 2500 miles away.

Just google "Karr alarm removal", "kahu removal", etc. You'll see plenty of threads about this garbage. I'll leave you with this photo of the work, this is just an example of one tap of many:

If you want to turn a reliable Toyota Truck into a electrical gremlin wiring mess, buy from a dealer that installs this garbage.

Please don't let greed get the better of you, these are mass produced trucks. Find one elsewhere.

P.S. I just joined the forums just to post this, so hopefully you (and others) won't have to go through dealing with this.

I saw that Costco did that for their members. Pretty cool. Pure N2 that is able to be delivered will always come with a cost. It’s just up to the consumer to decide if they will pay for it. My pop up was pre filled with N2 from the factory and I will say that after 6 years the pressure has never moved.

My wife's Corolla had nitrogen in the tires when she bought it (before we were together so I'm not sure how much she got gouged on it) but we're not Costco members so they have air in them now...

I can't believe that the dealer would have the audacity to do this - charge you for it and then not stand behind their work. I agree it's a terrible system that no one needs but I don't see how they could get out of paying to fix something they wrecked.

My other point was, cost aside, how would I even fill them up with nitrogen? Drive to the dealership every time the pressure is low? Throw the tires in the back of the truck after they've been sitting in my shed all winter and drive across town with them?
