Fail to see why you need a full size truck OP. No you did not make the right choice IMO. Plenty of mid size trucks and even "adventure" variants by Hyundai and Ford that basically put a truck bed on a car.

You don't want or need 4x4, and you don't tap into a full size trucks strengths (tow/haul). Save yourself 30k and buy a that new Maverick. Better tech, mpgs, parking (smaller), and ride quality. Go and rent a trailer when the need arises.

I do not wish I had my tundra, I'm glad it's gone. I spent a long time trying to make that truck something it wasn't meant to be. "Limited" to toyota really means "limited in features". I don't miss the 12 MPG of tundra, or its crappy rear ratio in order to achieve its towing capacity, or how uncomfortable it was. The F150 was great, it towed better than the tundra, was more comfortable, and better in nearly every way. Except maybe turning radius. I still decided to move to the 6.7 for towing comfort and have been happy with it. I'm happy to have moved away from Tundra, I regret not selling it much sooner.

The 5.0 F150 saw 17-19 MPG, and the F250 gets nearly 22 MPG (highway). In fact, when I tow with the 6.7 it still gets better mileage than the tundra did without towing lol but thats an unfair comparison, so I'll stick with the F150 comparison.

I'm not here to attack anyone, just to offer an unpopular opinion that the grass IS actually greener on the other side. Compare for yourself.

Tundra is good if you want a drama free car to take to home depot.

 

FYI, Fords last good trucks were built in 1979 and 12mpg was the norm. Actually the last real steel Fords were built in 1966 when plastic wasn't the thing. You seem to be one of those hyper critical folks I work for every now and then. Not sure why you posted what you did but it's time to move on.

 

I would pass on the fix or repair daily brand. You made the right choice

 

If one doesn’t tow over 8k lbs (which I don’t think I would do with ANY half ton), the Tundra is the best truck out there. It is the most reliable by a long shot. It is the cheapest to own over 5 years according to Edmunds. This means that extra fuel $$ you spend filling up a Tundra more than covers the amount in repairs on a different truck and trips back to the dealer to be told “we couldn’t recreate the problem”. The Tundra also generally has had the highest resale value for the last several years. Ford has class action lawsuits left and right for exaggerating their performance numbers from payload to MPG. Contrast this with Toyota: it is generally understood that Toyotas can be pushed past their stated limits within reason and won’t put up any fuss.

Three biggest reasons I bought a Tundra:
—the value it retains over time
—the fact that many trucks will take me out to remote places with my family, but the Tundra is going to bring us back home every time.
—ease of self maintenance. Look under the hood and underneath a Tundra. It is a thing of beauty. Every bolt, drain/fill plug, etc. is easy to reach and exactly where you want it. The domestics are an absolute MESS in this respect.

Enjoy your Ford; they used to make decent trucks, but I wouldn’t buy a single one these days with your money. Last thing—they don’t have more issues because there are more of them on the road; they have issues at a higher rate than Toyota. My time is more precious to me than wondering what that noise is on my new Ford or why the doors don’t stay shut while I’m driving down the road or why this new 10speed is so problematic, etc etc etc. Your mileage obviously varies…

100%, for the reasons you stated, plus Toyota QDR: Quality, Dependability and Reliability.

I've got a lot of Ford blue in my blood, so this was not a simple decision for me. I went with Tundra this time. Finally picked it up this week. Just a beauty of a road machine. I know Ford has more tech, more gadgets, etc. That means nothing to me. I don't want a vehicle that's in the shop for more than tire changes & alignments over the first ten years. I'll do my own brakes & fluids. I don't need or want a baked-in dependency on dealerships & parts houses. If I'm a "prepper", I've got the dream truck.

Regardless, best reason of all for a Tundra is resale value. No other truck delivers this as well. If I decide to change over to an F-150 (for example), I'm in a great trade position. Vice-versa, going from F-150 to Tundra, it's not quite the same trading position financially. F-150's are a dime-a-dozen where I live: they're everywhere, and they are great trucks. Why else do they sell well? Tundra are far fewer in number but with a stellar solid-gold reputation. Market conditions come and go, but I know my depreciating asset is depreciating & deteriorating less than the Ford owner's asset.

MPG too low: More than made up for by "QDR". We all know we bought a V8 5.7L TRUCK, right? No one forced you into the purchase, right? This ain't no 3-cylinder Geo Metro.

Lack of tech: Who cares. You won't use half that crap anyways. More crap to break & maintain. Simplicity has a quality all of it's own. The Tundra doesn't need more tech; it's got plenty as-is.

Payload: Pull a trailer if you need to. That's what the truck is designed for. UHaul for the win if you don't own a trailer and need to exceed payload capacity. I own a trailer and will use it gladly (back/spine issues) so I don't have to lift more than I need to. Besides, most of us know the Tundra is underrated from Toyota on payload capacity.

My Time: My time is very valuable to me; the less I'm messing with warranty work and repair nonsense and running for parts the better. And I'm a former mechanic who loves his tools.

Most definitely I bought 4WD. It will get used mostly in the Black Hills to help my elderly parents who live in a spot where 4WD is highly advisable. I won't be using 4WD much at all where I live 640 miles away gauging by the last few winters.

Evidently I've bought THE WORST gas-guzzlin', grocery-haulin', baseball-daddin', balls-swingin', dick-waggin', 4WD pavement-princess possible, and I'm loving every minute of it.

 

Your dying battery most likely took out your alternator. The dying battery over works the alternator. You really see it on diesels that have glow plugs.

 

UPDATE: Picked this SR5 4x4 up on 9/21 here at the Des Moines dealer. This truck is SOLID OAK strong. Smooth rider. I feel no mistake in this purchase. Plus, how do you go wrong with Barcelona Red?

Nothing wrong with liking something else better. Just don't understand why you would create a profile just to post this.

 

Owned a F150 had nothing but issues with, of all things, gaskets. Blew a pan gasket twice, valve cover gasket once. Yes I did check oil pressure and crank case breather. F250 lost a transmission at 82K miles. I am on my 2nd Tundra, first one was anew 2001 sold it with 168K miles. Only issue was a radiator tank split at 110K. 2019 has had no issues so far.

It's an ignorant train of thought held by many on this site ONLY because this generation of trucks has an interior inferior to a Corolla. Are these crusty old men also speaking to the future 3rd gen buyers who purchase a well spec'd interior "non work" truck?

Tech does not equal crap. Poor quality equals crap. A new IPhone comes out every year and I'm sure a healthy majority on here always upgrade. Ya know what I mean?
