I currently have the Toytech Ultimate lift which uses the Bilstein 5100 shocks. I have never been happy with the ride of my truck after the lift. It just does not have the plush factor that I feel an IFS truck should have. I had put a few hundred miles on it with the factory wheels and tires while I was waiting for my Toyo's and Method's to come in so I can safely say that it is the 5100's that I don't like.

I have looked at a few other options to replace this lift but I keep coming back to Fox. One big reason is that they are a customer of mine so I get a discount. The other reason is that I have not heard anybody complain about the ride. The only members that I have seen take them off was either to trade their truck in or they happened to get a very high end setup. What are your thoughts?

First thought, how long do you plan to keep the truck?
    Second thought, life is short!
Third thought, nothing tried, nothing gained.
Final thought, what's that phone number again???

I plan on keeping it for at least four years. I have thought about keeping it longer and just getting a luxury car in another three years or so. The daughter turns 16 next year and her brothers are not far behind so we will need more transportation in the future.

My advice, put the kids in some relatively safe disposable rides until they gain some experience at the school of hard knocks. A few bumpers, fenders, headlights, etc. later, maybe help them upgrade if they earn it. Just my .02.

I hear you loud and clear but the wife wants them to have the latest safety. So the end result will be a lighter wallet. I know one of my sons will definitely be trying the front locker out without my permission.

Regular cab pickup trucks are the safest for new drivers. Fewer distractions with 1 (maybe 2 if they ride family style) in the cab. Lower rollover risk than an suv due to center of gravity. Higher off the ground than a car and good weight to it. It’s what both my son and daughter will be driving when the time comes.

oh, back to OPs point. I had the same exact debate this past month. Don’t like the 5100s at all. Horrible ride. Pulled the trigger on fox this week. You should, too!

Wife is a great mother!! Might talk to her about some used Volvo's. Ask a few proffesionals in your area to let you know when they are going to upgrade, they just might be glad to know their old car will be keeping a good kid safe and make you a great deal.

In a few years grandma will be giving my daughter a newer Rav4, I don't know why but she wants to. So we just have to get something safe, reliable, and beatable for the meantime. It will then be handed down to the boys who, not doubt, will not leave it in the best condition when they are done with it.

I expected the 5100's to ride better than the stock shocks, not worse. I can't understand why Toytech has them listed as "Ultimate".

Fox 2.5 remote reservoir is a great option. Good quality, rebuildable and tunable. If you get em with your discount hookup, and still not happy we can always tune them better for your specific ride quality preference. The type of valving inside Fox is different than Bilstein so you should notice a big difference.
