I’ll definitely be taking to a mechanic. I don’t have enough info to sort out the cause here. This thread will document what went wrong and how I fixed it.

For now, I’m still on the road for work. Is there any way to know how urgent this “Maintenance Required” alert is? I’ll be driving a little bit all week, and then on Friday I have about 140 mile drive home. I don’t want to take it to a new mechanic here, but if it’s possible I’m doing lasting damage I can change priorities.

I did some pretty rough off roading. Maybe what some might call rock crawling. Used the rock sliders a couple time. No big hits other than that.

    Thoughts and input welcome!

It means its due for maintenance. Nothing is wrong.

This is an interval triggered message that is reset at preventative maintenance so it will expire roughly 5k miles after reset.

Is it just the oil change reminder?

Thats the same "alert" that appears to remind you of Service intervals. (Every 5K for tires, 10k for Oil changes). How long have you had the truck?

That is your Oil Change indicator that comes on every 5000 miles. You just need to reset it unless you haven't changed the oil recently.

How to Reset Maint. Required Light on a Toyota Tundra
    1. Turn your key to the "On" notch, and press your trip odometer knob until "Trip A" is displayed.
    2. Turn your key to the "Off" notch. Press and hold the trip odometer knob. ...
    3. Wait for the system to reset. ...
    4. Release the trip odometer knob when "Trip A" is displayed again.

If the fluids are good and belt isn't broke. Watch guages and drive on.

Thank you all so much for putting my mind at ease! All gauges and indicators look good. just had an oil change about 1000 miles ago so no problems there. I’ve owned the truck about 5000 miles now.

Sounds like people who did your oil change forgot to reset the truck.

That's what it is - whoever did your oil change didn't reset the notification system. Definitely a YouTube or some info in the forum on how to reset on your own (likely a combo of turning the key and pumping the brake pedal).

Enjoy the new (to you) truck!

Key on - press the button on your dash cluster to change ODO to trip A. Key off. Hold down button on dash cluster and flip key on. Continue to hold button until countdown display clears from ODO. You’ve reset your maintenance reminder.
