Yesterday we got a little snow, it was enough that I used 4wd on my way home and it worked fine. Went over to my sisters and had to move my truck. Tried backing out of their driveway and was just spinning so went to put it in 4wd and my main info screen said my brake controller was malfunctioning, and my abs and traction control lights were on. Switched it to 4wd and it would not engage 4 hi and 4 low lights were just flashing even though I put it in 4 high. I turned the truck off and back on and 4wd lights were still flashing and abs light was on, but the others went away. I went back to watching my daughter sled. When I went to leave, my 4wd was no engaged and my abs light was still on, but now the 4wd won't disengage. Drove to the end of the their street and turned around in the cul de sac and my 4wd is binding up like crazy and I could barely turn. Halfway up the hill if finally disengaged, probably almost a half mile after I turned it off. I messed around with it a little bit and it was taking a very long time to engage and disengage. By the time I got home, 2 miles later everything seemed to be working correctly. Is it possible that when I was spinning, I got some snow packed around the wheel speed sensor that could screw that stuff up, or is it likely I have some sort of short in it or do you have any other ideas of what might have caused that? Everything was working right this morning, but I don't want it to happen again when I need my 4wd.

Did you ever figure out the problem? I've had this happen to me multiple times and was wondering if it would be better to go with a more Open Wheel so I don't get snow pack to avoid the problem

No it's never happened again. I just assumed with the deep wet slushy snow was kind of the perfect storm for it to happen.

Every time I go in the deep snow and have to go into four-wheel drive it happens to me or it will happen when I want to leave four wheel drive. Let me know if you find out anything else maybe it's something to do with a bad wheel sensor

If I remember right someone told me there is a little guard you can get for them, but I forget who sells them.

It can happen in the wet snow. There are protective covers available that would help with that.
