So has anyone considered that the new huge radio can not be changed out probably for an aftermarket improvement !?

If true to form and the radio sucks then what do you do?

This seems like the first non-din radio in a Tundra as an option?

The little one looks to maybe be a Double Din still?

    Sincerely
    Johnny Raincloud

This is pretty much the trend of all manufacturers. The good news is that it will be able to receive OTA updates so you can just connect your Tundra to wifi and download the update. Hopefully that means they will create bug fixes more often since deployment is much simpler.

    where there's a will, there's a way.

it just might mean replacing large sections of the dash in the process.

Which is why when something goes wrong related to the head unit, the issues are costly or require a full dash rebuild.

I am really talking more about sound quality as few seem content with factory radios.

OTA bug fixes will definitely fix things like limited EQ, low power output to the speakers, and ridiculous things like cranking the volume up to 50 just to hear a song over road noise.

This will mean a lot of people buying secondary audio kits with processors and amps to hide under the seats and rebalance the sound. I've never been in a car or truck that didn't leave a lot to be desired in sound quality.

It's been my experience that factory stereos these days sound pretty good (unlike 10-15 years ago). Unless you are very picky about your sound (audiophile?) or want enough bass to vibrate the bolts out of your vehicle, you should be fine.

Never been bothered by a factory radio. I always have one on, but I don't want to be deaf so...:rockband:

Someone like Scosche might make an adapter down the line. In the meantime upgrade everything beyond the head unit and just use carplay/AA for the experience. :notsure:

I’m guessing it’s still a double din at heart, so like @Squatting Pigeon said, it’ll just be a matter of getting an aftermarket dash kit developed. It’s pretty unlikely that they’d have two different dash holes based on the HU configuration.

If they’ve made adapters for this, they can do it for anything :poking:

Can't you just change out your amp and speakers for better sound quality?

Typically, you can't just change out an amp. Depends on the system, but usually keeping the factory HU means new speakers, new amp (or two), and a signal processor to clean up the junk from the HU and enable better EQing of the material.
