Not so much mad but sad.
Went to an estate auction yesterday. Didn't get anything, wife wanted to check it out, we're looking for some old book shelves. The house is in really bad shape. You could see it was once a grand house. The old guy (he really was only 77, being 57 myself I don't see that as THAT old) who lived there as an only child, his Dad was WWII army vet who served in the pacific because his uniform was there with some citations and things where there. You could tell this man spent his entire life in this house. He was a very intelligent man, lawyer, served on city council, genealogy and historical societies. Obviously a single man, no sign that he was ever married or had children, nothing mentioned in his obit that I looked up later. No other immediate family according to obit. He was found dead in the house last year and I guess probate had processed to the point to have the auction to sell off every thing in the house and the house and property. Proceeds go to the local museum from what I heard.

What was sad to me was this man's entire existence was in this house. There were toys from when he was a child, comic books from the 50s when he was preteen. 30 years of National Geographic cataloged from when he was teens and older. Books everywhere. But for whatever reason he didn't maintain the house, floors were sagging, walls were crumbling, people were walking through the house and admiring the wood work and fire place mantels that could be salvaged but the house was too far gone to be salvage as a whole. The grounds were over grown but you could see the outline of a fish pond, a wide walk way out to the street with brick work wall around the front of the property. Probably more features lost in the bamboo growing out back. The drive way up to the car port was the only clear area in the yard at the time. The Auction group cleared the property enough for folks to walk around and inspect things.

It looked like the entirety of this man's families' possessions were in this house. There were boxes of jewelry, portraits of people that no one can now name. Snap shots, trinkets from cross country trips, pottery that was being sold up to $5-7k (Edgefield pottery if you're wondering why so expensive). There was a framed portrait of a family on the front porch of another house, looked to be late 1800s, who were they, where was that house? No one knows. Everything this family had was being sold on the front steps and distributed far and wide and all the stories of how they were acquired or who that is in the portrait or who's wedding band that was are lost.

I suppose it's better than someone coming in with a dumpster and just tossing it out like I've seen before.

Yeah, it's messed with my mind a bit. I need to process it. Thanks for letting me share.

We're in the same situation Ron but we have multitudes of nieces, nephews and even their children. Had one of the great nephews call me asking about a good laptop to buy and we were talking within his budget. I asked him how much is the Intel I7 machine with the rock and roll flip touchscreen, how much more he needed. Finally got an answer and I told my wife to Vemo him what he needed to get the good laptop. He objected fiercely as he had just graduated college and doing well. I told him it's our down payment on his taking care of us when we get old. "We want IN HOME elder care also, don't pack us off to some cheep retirement center!"
He agreed so it was money well spent.

This same kid is very interested in our family history and I'm sure all the things and stories we have will pass down to him and his cousins.

Yes it’s sad - done a few of these sales through the years / single person or childless couple - once they go, no one but distant relatives who don’t care.

It’s sad - but all of our times will come. I’m struggling with it as it’s just me and Mrs - and she wants nothing to do with things passed down from my family (house/property/etc) - I just can’t bring myself to sell though - this was my great and grandparents only real possessions…they spent their life tending to it and that was their mark left on this earth.

Trying to find the right fit in a conservatory or something to just eventually turn it over to - I keep saying I’ll clean and fix things up - but more than $$ - that takes time…and I’ve got too many projects as is, taking on one 5 hours away is tough.

Only positive is - I at least have time left. I’m young enough to still do something and could DIY if I had the chance - but time slips by quickly too.

    These people are ASSHOLES.

If you were closer I’d loan you the Deere and loader so you could properly dump that shit back in his drive - plus all of the neighbors drives too to teach them a lesson.

Add a new one to my list last night…

When you loan someone a vehicle and it’s returned full of their trash, filthy and with absolutely zero gas.

Thought I was being nice loaning out a vehicle to someone for winter that was AWD - the minimum to me you could do is sweep the thing out before returning it, return gas to the level it was when you picked up and let me know you were a few thousand past the oil change needed !

Maintenance, I don’t really care about - it’s gone the moment I can get the title…and no huge deal for me to change the oil. But detailing - you basically just made me invest a half day of my time cleaning after you (or paying $150-200 to save my time). Same with gas - look I get gas is $$$ and don’t expect you to top off a 30 gallon tank…but if you pick up with half a tank - return with half a damn tank !

As much as I’d love to blame this one on my worthless ass sister - I can’t. In fact she’s the only reason she found out…she found out it was back and sitting and started to sniff around and I knew I needed to get it before her talons sank in and she had it with no chance of getting it back. She just missed her chance on this one too…

Sounds like you won't be lending your vehicles to that person again.

The level of disrespect and inconsideration is astounding.

It's a simple rule; ALWAYS return things borrowed in at least as good of condition as it was received, if not better.

Yea - last time for that mistake:

Really kind of surprised me this time - as this person had regular access to vehicle with my mom and never had these issues and would t have thought of them as being this messy/inconsiderate.

I get some people are otherwise normal yet live like pigs in their cars - seen it daily in the body shop / service departments. Still have a damn level of respect for others property - especially when it’s newer and not cheap (not that I wouldn’t respect someone’s POS beater the same myself).

It’s funny as I ran a bareback boat charter for a few years - no captain - just renting my personal boat. Yes - we had some idiots, but in 150+ rentals on a party lake I can’t recall one who left things this bad. Of course most were a day or 2 - not near this long.

I guess just be glad it’s back - clean it up and move on. I really am beginning to dislike this car - can’t wait until I can sell it and hopefully I don’t lose out too much after I detail it up and get it ready to go.

With this one it’s kind of hard to do that - not a bad person and they did quite a lot for my parents over last 6 years.

Some people are genuine good people with just a glaring flaw.

Still - you try to help someone out and they pay you back like this. I get having a lot going on and not having time/money - then just say “sorry - didn’t have time to fill up” - no need to mention $$…we have all been there. Cleaning up takes what - 10 minutes a week and 75 cents for a car wash vacuum?

I suspect they thought I would gift them the car - I thought about it - but ultimately decided to give $$ versus a car - cash you can buy what you like and can afford. A car you get the “gift” of paying insurance/tags and depreciation- I mean if I was scraping by and had a choice of 35k cash or a used luxury SUV worth 38k - I guarantee you I’d take cash every time. Too many good cars for 10-15k out there and too many uses for cash daily.

Would be my suggestion - but from my experience you still gotta go through Uruguay, Umsbekastan, UAE, Uganda and about 18 other countries that they likely don’t deliver to.

Other than the UK - how many U’s does the average site really need. Yes - I get it’s the WORLD wide web - but just lazy site developers who don’t put the most common customer countries at the top of drop down and then list the others following.

Because your doing it wrong - tell them you live in ‘Merica and if they don’t list it first - they aren’t getting any of your business.

Apologies to my Canadian and other citizens of socialistic nations - obviously just having fun based on those who think the WWW is America only. At the same time - some of these sites are clearly selling 99.8% of their products to a single country - why do we have to search for it in a list.

And another new one to the list…

Finding out that my 2021 Tundra is not in fact a “3rd generation” but actually just a “generation 2 update”

Now I have to sell a truck I like and spend more money on a 2022 Tundra just to maintain my status as a Gen 3 Tundra owner.

But then where do you draw the line? I get pissed off it only the US or only the US and the UK are at the top of the list and I still have to scroll for Canada.

We should petition to change the name of our country to "Aamerica, United States of".

Although the "United" part is highly suspect these days. :(

Agreed - fortunately there are only a few million of you - so the inconvenience is less.

Realistically though - it should be US/Canada/US possessions and territories and possibly a few Euro nations on most sites.

Why do merchants feel they need to list 200 countries when all of the legitimate customers come from like 6 possible locations.

Why make us sort through a list with North Korea for example - clearly no one is visiting your site operating out of the US and requesting delivery to NK - so why even list it.

Well, the website is probably already tracking you. Sure seems like they could autofill your location based on your IP address.

Then the only people with issues are the ones having to VPN in via another country.

Trying to sell a car on Craigslist. We've got an older spare vehicle that we're trying to get rid of and every email or text has been very sketchy and weird to say the least. Thinking about just pulling the ad and doing it the old fashioned way with a poster in the windshield.

I was okay and hanging in there with the messages you could tell some were scammers right off the bat which got no responses. Today I was texting back and forth all day with someone who asked a lot of questions and seemed interested. They were coming at 5:30 to look at the car, then said they couldn't make it til 7pm which I said was still fine. Then they replied and said they couldn't come til Thursday...whatever, no big deal right. Meanwhile I was getting a couple emails from someone else that seemed interested (asked if it was still for sale, asked my best price, etc). This person asked for my address and said they could come over at 6pm. I thought okay, whoever buys it first right?...then it got weird because the person I was texting with sent me a message and asked "if anyone emails you and asks about prices don't answer them please like a guy named Mike". So the person that had been emailing...his name was showing as Mike *****. And the person texting me said please don't tell him about our conversation. What the hell? Do these two know each other? What is going on here? I emailed and texted both back saying sorry, but the car was sold. Not sure what the hell is going on there. Then the person texting replied back and asked if they can have the buyers name. I quit responding after that.

I feel angry when Toyota removes useful features from truck for no reason (drver side grab handle and under seat storage), and then after I buy the truck, they put the same features back after a couple of years later.

Well - you are posting on CRAIGSLIST….it’s kinda like saying you posted a personal ad on the bulletin board in front of the adult book store and attracted nothing but weirdos - your gonna get primarily the type of customer the venue attracts.

I look at CL as a BUYER on occasion as you do every now and then find a decent deal from a seller who isn’t stupid - but as a seller, I’d be using other options. Way too many nutcases out there and enough fund their way to my door without an open invitation to stop by - no need to hang the welcome sign out for them.

Gotta love the broken English messages of - “I buye you car sale - me send u cashiers cheque and you send me back the balance, keep 300 additional for you compensation. Then I have my cousin pick up car in week after cheque has cleared. Good deal you”

Its like talking to a middle eastern Yoda it is.

Tailgaters, drivers on their phone f ing around , people not using their turn signal, when bums jump on a one on one fight, when females think they can hit a man and not get hit back.

I've kept up with this thread since it started, and have added a few myself. Here's a new one that everyone may not understand or agree with.

What makes me angry is when I realize that I have been THAT JERK on the road doing something that I am EXTREMELY critical of others for! I get FURIOUS at myself when I realize I am guilty of that offense!

This morning I had to make a very quick decision between flooring it or hitting the brakes to allow someone to merge when we were both surprised by a temporary construction blockage forcing two lanes into one. I floored it, forcing the other guy to hit his brakes hard, and immediately regretted it in that situation. What's worse, it was another Tundra! I doubt that driver is on this forum, but if he is, I hope he sees this as an apology!
