Be happy that it’s a gen 2.5. I spent years on TW teasing the 3rd gen Tacoma “oh yeah turd gen sucks blah blah blah” to then get into a “turd gen” Tundra. Rather it be 2nd gen - and it’s more accurate considering it was primarily cosmetic changes between 2007-2013 to 2014-2021.

I think he means the 2014-2021 are mechanically identical to the 2007-2013.

Yeah my GX is rated at 301horse and the ECU cuts power at 114mph.

Tbh I would have been happy with a lot less.

No didn’t ignore it. Matter of fact those are pretty good numbers, but. You would think Toyota would do what they did back in 07 and stomp the competition. And forget about that hybrid system. Only time will tell how a electrical motor between the trans and engine will last or what issues it will have. And just like Chevy they opted to only offer it on the higher end models,$$$. I love my tundra and would change it for any other truck but for all the hype and delay, it’s not a wow truck. Granted I like my trucks more simple, not much into 50 USB chargers or power plant in the bed of the truck or massaging seats. :D

i am glad they didnt chase numbers like the big 3. if they follow the mantra of the land cruiser (build it for 25yr life span target) i will be happy since we are getting the new 22 as our last truck purchase for the wife (she only likes trucks and hates silver color). i myself as looking forward to the 23 4runner (6th gen) as my last 4runner purchase since we are in our mid 50's and i am happy with my 2014 4runner (paid off). but i want a few creature comforts that i am expecting the new 6th gen will have that i wish the 5th gen would have had to finalize my buying habits for vehicles. i as slowing down on my mileage and trips cross country to the point where 100k miles will take 7-10 yrs instead of under 7yrs that i have been doing the last few decades.

also forgot to add, i remember seeing one reviewer saying the reason they didnt do the multi-function tailgate was that the complexity something would eventually break, not if (think TFL said it)

So how long is it typically before they make aftermarket bumpers and grilles to replace the ones on the new 2022 Tundra? :D

    You say your "last" purchases.

Are you not planning on out-living the vehicles?

Soooo... people say the 2014 to 2021 isn't a third gen, due to cosmetic changes only. But you can take any ford truck from 1980 to 1996 (3 different "generations") and its pretty much only cosmetic changes (and fuel injection, but same engines).

For semantics sake, Toyota "officially" calls the 07 to 21 the 2nd Generation Tundra.

Actually your comment is a bit ridiculous, did you miss the part where you also get 80 extra torque that also comes much sooner than it ever did on the 5.7? That will be much more noticeable than a couple dozen hp.

We have an engine that has slightly more hp, significantly more TQ that comes at lower rpms, and gets better gas mileage than the 5.7

That's just the base engine, let alone the Hybrid.

Just make the tailgate handle where it won't break if you look at it wrong & that's plenty good, IMO

Meh... the only good thing on this new gen is the locker and the hybrid system.

well at the rate the tundra is going 8-9k per year and i am slowing down on mileage a yr (84k at almost 8yrs) the next vehicles are probably going to last 10yrs which at that point i will be in retirement which means i wont be buying a new vehicles.

    crosses finger :)

Toyota themselves have always stated that 2007-2021 is a single generation, denoted by the XK50 model code. The only evidence to the contrary, and the reason the forum maintains its designations is apparently that unfinished pressroom.Toyota.com webpage with some pictures and zero information calling the 2014-2017 a 3rd gen. Sure looks like something a clueless intern drafted up that was never finished or corrected.

The new in-depth Toyota Pressroom article and this official Toyota YouTube video at the 9:00 mark confirm what the model codes have always told us: 2022 is the 3rd gen.

The barn door on the Ram is nice, but the GM one is stupid and just asking to be ruined by a hitch when you drop it.

Oh, you meant NEW vehicles. You plan on buying used ones after retirement, all the way to 100 years of age...at least.

We always knew it. I vote that the 2014-21 Tundra maintains its loving title of "Turd Gen" and the '22s are the 3rd gen. :D

And some of us actually thought this site was watched by Toyota?? It's not that Toyota doesn't care about our desires, it's that they just don't know this site exists.

At this point its just numbers to me. But when Toyota came out with the 5.7 they crushed the competition. Now they are on par with them. And the hybrid, just like the GM 6.2, you have to pay a premium to get it. That’s ridiculous. At least the 5.7 was available in all trims. And spare me the MPG. If and I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, it gets 25mpg that’s like $550-570 more a year in gas if you drive around 15k a year. Wohoo big deal. You want MPG, buy a Prius.
