My truck is equipped with the 4.0l V6 engine. Looking to put on some alloy wheels and A/T tires. The new wheel/tire combos are anywhere from 7-13lb heavier. Will this much increase in weight per corner be regrettable? Truck has always been slow with the V6 (don’t care) but would it be unbearably slow and feel light a freight train under braking?

New alloy wheels are actually 4lb lighter but the tires add 11-17lb depending on choice. So the net is 7-13lb.

Truck is my daily driver and I don’t want to regret my decision. I don’t do any towing and live along the coast (flat).

Well I have an 06 4runner with that engine and it does just fine running larger tires. The 4.0 is one of the best Toyota engines. You will take a MPG hit due to the additional weight and effective reduced gearing. You will probably drop 1-2 MPG depending what kind of tire you run.
