    Happy Birthday Chris!

What DCS are y'all running? DeltaV? Experion? I tried to zoom in to see but it was too blurry.

And you must be very popular, volunteering to work on your birthday to allow others to be off!

Thank you! For us, just another day. Been working a lot though. This week was 29 hours of overtime. In a few weeks we start a 65-75 day outage. That will be long.

We run Mark VIE, Ovation, and Yokogawa. Soon the Yokogawa will be removed and replaced with Ovation and down to three operating systems which will be nice since we just purchased 6 more gas turbines and they will run the Mark VIE as well.

Stay away from Yokogawa. Customer service blows.

Thank you everyone. I have to say this has been one of the best “online” birthdays since 2001. To be honest, I usually dread it.

Yeah, I knew that about Yokogawa. The Chevron refinery over in Pascagoula migrated from Honeywell TDC 3000 to Yokogawa at the expense of 100's of $k's. Less than two years later they were migrating again, back to Honeywell, but the newer Experion, spending the same money twice.

Due diligence when shopping for DCS controls is very important. So far we really like Ovation. Easy to navigate, check points and get into logic to see what’s going on. Point trends easily made and called upon.

I've never worked with Ovation. I noticed the Emerson Process Management label on the drawing that was pulled up. I have programmed DeltaV, which is Emerson's flagship product. That interface menu for trends, historian, etc, is pretty handy. Most other DCS systems have those features, but not all in one menu.

That's what it is (Emerson) Ovation DCS. Our sister dirt burner next door uses DeltaV and they really like it. The dirt burners we just took off coal are on ABB, which is good but customer support is lacking from what I hear. GE has been really good (guess depending on your LTSA agreement) and how many millions you toss at them. We have an Alstom Steam Turbine and has been really reliable. However, the old DCS from them was a PITA and you needed specific tools and training to even get into the system. Sometimes we would be sitting idle for days waiting for a tech to come from Germany (another hurdle) to plug a labtop in and figure out what was going on @10000.00 per day. Thankfully GE purchased Alstom and that made the move to Emerson a lot easier. We wanted a Mark VI but....:spending:

Totally agree that this is a great feature to have. Usually I can find and solve an issue before a tech arrives or at least have the logic and issue pointed out.
