I finally got around to performing the DC folding rear seat mod a couple weeks ago. Hopefully I'm the last to do it, as it's a quick and easy mod that opens up all kinds of storage options.

Heres the link for anyone who has been traped under a rock: https://www.tundras.com/threads/dc-fold-down-rear-seats.699/

Anyway, I went with the cutting of the retention hooks method. Angle grinder made quick work of shortening the hooks (I removed 7/8"), and a fairly long bit extender on the impact made removing and installing the hooks a bit more friendly.

After completion I learned that raising and lowering the upper and lower cushions together allows the seat to pivot in such a way that the headrest clears the front seats where I have them set for my 6'1 frame.

To better utilize the newly accessable storage space, I rigged up a panel of molle webbing to the rear of the cab. I have only used a combination of the factory plastic clips for the sound deadening, and zip-ties through various holes. It's holding up great thus far, so I think it might actually be a permanent solution.

So far I have one pouch with booster cables and a small collection of hand tools. A pouch with recovery gear like a tow strap, gloves, and shackles. And as you can see from the picture, I found a medical kit in a molle bag complete with first-aid identification patch!

I will probably also add a multi-function shovel (decided not to steal the jeep's) and maybe a halotron fire extinguisher. The extinguisher would probably have to go in the under-seat storage box, but there is some extra space in there now.

What does everyone else use this space for? Any suggestions that I cant live without?

Looks great COTundie! I have a Crewmax but my son has a DC so he might be interested in this modification.

    Thanks Josh

It's a decent consolation prize for the entire rear window not rolling down.

That is the word on the street from the more audio oriented in the community. Gives a little more space for a sub enclosure, amps, etc

Though I just cut the hooks and left the bolt-on attachment points the way they were.

I actually quite like the plastic storage bin and prefer to retain it. Especially now that I've got things organized to where I dont have to listen to my hitch ball sliding around in there!

Nice, I did the same but I put the molle webbing on the back of my seats. Made it nice when you lay the seat down it's right there.
