Hey everyone, new tundra owner here (sized up from a Taco). Picked up a ‘12 crewmax sr5 5.7 2wd with about 83k on it a couple days, ago and drove it back across the country. Yesterday was a 16 hour ride, and with about an hour left, the CEL started flashing and the truck starting running rough. As I started to pull off the road (within a few seconds of the light coming on), the light went away and the truck was back to normal. That happened 2 more times over the next 10 minutes, and then nothing for the remaining 45 minutes or so of the ride. Drove the truck again this morning for a bit, and all still seems fine.

Does the ECU have a memory so the code can be pulled even if the light isn’t on? If not, any ideas on what kind of failure would come and go like that? I’m in Mexico, and bad gas is a possibility, but this was towards the end of a refill (about a quarter tank left), so i would have expected an issue with the gas would have presented itself several hours earlier. I hit a speed bump pretty hard (on a dark jungle road, they pop up quick here) about an hour before the CEL came on. Maybe a plug wire is a bit loose?

    Any insight would be excellent.

A flashing CEL is usually indicative of a misfire. There should be stored codes that you can read with a scan tool to point you in the right direction.
