Very sobering statistics. Thanks for starting the conversation. As with every 9/11 anniversary, I’ll be starting my day with a prayer for all that have been impacted since then.

One of the last road trips we got to take with the inlaws (sounds weird, but we actually get along great and enjoy a lot of the same tourist type attractions), we went to Pennsylvania. One of our impromptu stops was the Flight 93 memorial off Highway 30 (the Historic Lincoln Highway) near Stoystown. It's a very nice memorial park overlooking where flight 93 crashed. Very sobering. Definitely worth the stop and introspection if you're in the area.

I can literally see it replay like it was yesterday. I was in 3rd grade, 28 now. I’m remember being in the library checking out a book and asking the librarian what movie was playing. She said honey it’s not a movie we’ve been attacked.

Thank you for posting this information on here. And thank you to any of y'all who strap it on every day in the military, police, fire, ems, health care, and as dispatchers in the continued fight against terrorism and all things evil. Prayers to all who have lost loved ones on that day 20 years ago or since then in the efforts to bring the fight to the terrorists. This time of year bothers me. I get pissed off and sad over this senseless act of violence. Looking forward to the Richmond races this weekend as they honor first responders. Stay safe out there folks!

Damn son, that gave me chills reading that. My oldest son was almost 2 at the time, he doesn’t remember any of that day and I’m glad.

I remember growing up hearing adults talk about remembering exactly where they were and what they were doing when Kennedy was killed.

I never really understood that until 9/11. I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard about it and always will.

My son wasn't born at the time so he's where I was with Kennedy - doesn't truly understand.

Thank you for sharing the info, and thanks to all who serve and have served since.

Yep, I was active duty and working the 3 to 11 pm shift that week. I went in early because we were loading cargo and generating all of our tankers. It took 4 hours to get on base once I hit the gate, and then worked a 16 hr shift. I remember it like it was yesterday. These pics became a common site in the AOR when the hunt began.

I thought the Challenger exploding would be the defining historical moment in my lifetime. Boy was I wrong. My son was 8 months old on 9/11/2001 and I was conflicted that day about whether I had made a mistake in having kids. I love him (and his sister) but I fear the world they will live in.

I remember all the details of that day. Was working at a stock photography company at the time. We had just rolled out a new system for our news teams to use. I was there only person with admin privileges that really knew how the system worked. Rushed right into work. When I wasn’t handling calls from a VP or our office in NYC I just sat at my desk and looked at all the images coming in.

I was a senior in highschool. I lived right next to the school. Up at 7:45, shower and at school by 8:00. My sister yelled a plane crashed into a building in NYC. First thought was that sucks. Some idiot didn't know what he was doing. Didn't fully grasp the situation until I got to school and everyone was glued to the TV. Classes where still held, but no one taught anything that day. We stayed glued to the news.

I visited NYC for the first time a few years back - growing up in suburban SW US, I was rather disgusted by the whole nature of big city life but I’ve never felt the way I did standing at the 9/11 Memorial. Taking in the young trees surrounding the deep fountains and seeing all the names etched some bearing recently placed flowers - knowing the horror we watched live on TV happened right where you’re standing - if that doesn’t get you something’s not right.

I'll never forget that day . I was woken up in the morning ( I worked afternoon shift at the time ) and watched it live on tv . When I went into work that afternoon everyone was asking me what happened . We didn't have tv's at work so they were listening to the radio but that wasn't the same as watching what was happening that day . I prayed for everyone while it was happening . Nothing has happened before or since then that has made me feel so sick to my stomach .

I was a police officer working in the county to the east of the 5 boroughs. My wife called me when the first plane hit. I immediately looked west and could already see the smoke. Everybody on duty at that time was mobilized and sent to Manhattan. The “kid” I was with that day spent 38 hours on a traffic post 6 blocks north of the rubble pile. Thankfully I havent had any health issues but the “kid” suffered for years and unfortunately just passed away a month ago. Unbelievable that 20 years later guys I know are still suffering. Say a little prayer if its your thing. If not just remember. 17D0CDE2-85C7-4C09-9174-8A95B3D73CFD.jpg

I had tickets to the Red Sox v Yankees game on 9/10. I was supposed to drive from Boston to NY to watch the game, spend the night, and go to the WTC for breakfast before driving home. I got sick as hell and couldn’t make it.

I’m originally from NY, I had moved to outside of Boston. I had a NYC skyline panoramic photo in my office. They made me take it down on 9/12. It sat in a closet for 20 years and when we moved this spring we put it back up.

I was 16 years old, a sophomore, sitting in civics class, when my school heard about the planes hitting the tower. We watched the footage for a while but then our principal made teachers turn it off and attempt to explain the gravity of the situation and let kids talk through it, trying to make sense of it. I went to work after school, mowing grass for a golf course, and I’ll never forget the line of cars backed up as far I could see down the road waiting to get gas at a station next to the 8th fairway. The station had jacked up their prices to like $4 a gallon from about $1.35 the day before.

A friend and former coworker was the Landscape Architect for the ground zero memorial. He would send me pictures of the ongoing construction.
Prayers to all that were affected by this tragic event.

Was @ work at the time (I worked at what was called CINCLANTFLT - Commander in Chief, Atlantic Fleet - at the time), in what was called their command center (where all the high ranking generals/admirals/etc. sat). Was watching the news on CiscoIPTV, and then news of the first plane came on.

While watching it....a plane flew into one of the Twin Towers. I remember looking at my buddy and saying "Please tell me that was a replay......"

For probably one of the ONLY times in history, the journalists were silent, and then one said "Ladies and gentlemen....that was not a replay. I repeat, that was not a replay. We appear to be under attack."

I had enough time to turn to said buddy and say something like "I think our way of life has just changed" before all comms channels and every high ranking officer went absolutely nuts. At the time I remember thinking "Oof, too much hyperbole" about my statement. Now? Not enough. :(

I was in there on Monday (day before the attacks) and it is something I think about often. I so clearly remember looking straight up at them and saying wow, how awesome they are.

    Next day gone.

Prayers to all who were lost, and those left behind to remember, we will never forget.

There was a guy at work who was live streaming a news report about a plane crashing into one of the towers on his computer. We were standing around his desk watching it, wondering amongst ourselves what could have happened, how a trained crew could've made such a mistake, or what mechanical failure might have contributed. Then, as we were watching, the 2nd plane (and reality of the situation) hit. :(
