This is some bad luck. Got rear ended today. Making a right turn and some teenaged girl slam into me. Good thing I got a tow hitch in the back. I don’t know what else is damaged. Truck is still drivable. I just put a few thousand dollars into the maintenance. New rack and pinion, new wheels and tires, painted hood. The other car I can’t say anything about it. It’s basically done. Damn hopefully I could get some money out of it.

Update: Truck is salvaged. It has frame damage. Insurance cashed me out $20k. Personal injury case still pending. Declined insurance buy back of 5,500 dollars.

Update: Picked up a 2011 Double Cab Trd Rock Warrior 4x4 for 21k with 120k on the odometer.

Update: 2005 tundra sold on copart for 7,900 dollars.

Man that really sucks. I'm sorry. Hopefully everyone is ok. With a hit this hard, it's not uncommon to get back pain a few days later. Make sure you get checked out if that happens.
On a positive note, prices for for 1st gens are way up right now. Make sure you use that, plus all the money you just spent on maintenance when you negotiate with insurance.

Thanks for the info. Yeah hopefully insurance can come through. But if I ask too much they’ll probably salvaged my car. You think that’s a possibility

That's a helluva excellent tow hitch to have on there for getting hit from behind!

    Good luck...

Typically they decide based on the damage, not what you ask for. Though I have heard of adjusters asking you if you prefer they fix it, or total it, if the damage could go either way. If the frame isn't bent I'd be inclined to have it fixed since you just did all that maintenance to it. I don't know if they can still find a replacement bed or not.

hopefully they could fix it or just cash me out for the repair because this is my extra truck I use only on the weekend. It was kinda beat up already cosmetically. Scratches here and there. So I don’t mind the damage.

My first reaction was "ehh, not so bad", but it's clear in this picture that the truck is ~ 2" shorter than it was before...

Gotta ask myself why a teenager has a sports car like that. And I'm a parent. Guess their parents don't feel that way. Too much sports car for a young kid.

Do a pre runner cut or a high clearance bumper and all good to go.

They didn’t even brake. It was full on smash. They were going around 35-45mph. Probably on their cell phone taking selfies or tic tok. Whatever teenagers do these days. Their airbag was deployed. They walked away. No injuries but they was pretty shaken up. In one of the picture you could see the battery on top of the engine. Their car took some serious damaged.

I just bought the truck this pass January for 10k. Right before the prices of used car started to go crazy. Truck currently has 163k. Can’t get a 2005 double cab 4wd with that kind of mileage anymore for that price.

That’s unfortunate. What’s with teenage girls hitting people.. about a month ago my girlfriend got rear ended by a girl that was on her phone, last week I witnessed two accidents caused by sum young gals.

That looks like the V6 deluxe model. 210 HP/280 tq. Not a powerful car.

Perhaps not when compared to the V8, but those numbers still seem like a lot to me. I bet it scoots down the road.

Your truck has more hp. The V8 model had 300 HP.

Maybe this would be more appropriate:

Agreed on not a powerful car, but it definitely gives a different mindset to a young driver versus a 'boring' sedan.

I knew plenty of people in high school that drove V6 Chargers/Camaros/Mustangs like maniacs because of the association with speed.

While this may be true, hitting another vehicle at 45 mph says something about the driver, not the car. Would this accident happened had she been driving a Corolla? Tundra? Jeep? When someone rear ended another driver, they were distracted or following closely.
