Kenwood components spkr install ?

Hello, have a couple questions for anyone that is familiar with the

$229 kenwood kfc-xp6902c car component system select chevrolet/toyota

kenwood kfc-xp6902c component speakers or can give me some direction please. Wife surprised me with these and I want to get them installed. I have a ‘21 tundra NON jbl. Right now I am going to keep the factory radio because it has CarPlay and everything I want. I WILL be adding an amp of some sort in a couple weeks but I’m about to sound deaden the doors, so I want to go ahead and do speakers now while panel is off.
Questions….
1. Do I need to disconnect the center dash tweeter since the kenwood has the 2.75 high frequency mid?
2. As for the crossover, do I need need that since there is a little amp under the passenger seat? I ask because I don’t know if the amp already has crossovers in it.
3. As for the 6x9 woofer, there is the option for bypass or low. Again, being that there is an amp under the seat, is the signal already crossed over?
Any directions willing to help wiring would be greatly appreciated.
Again, I will be adding an aftermarket amp in the near future but want to install the speakers on the factory setup now.

I've never seen these before. Very interesting that you can run a passive or active crossover.

Yes, i would disconnect the center dash speaker all together, on my 2017 non jbl the dash tweeters are powered by the head unit itself so when you add your amp, you will have a volume difference and it'll sound like crap....just disconnect it.

So as far as the crossovers go, i'm not 100% sure. I dont remember seeing any kind of an inline crossover from the factory, so it's gotta be crossed over in the amp (but it could be hidden in the wiring). You've got to be really careful with running an active setup though, if you send 50hz to your tweeter, its toast.
I would probably start with NOT bypassing the crossovers and see how it sounds. You are going to be using the crossovers that came with the speakers when you replace the amp, so i'd say just run them now.
Alternatively, if you have some way to measure the frequency (cheap Amazon osciliscope will work) at each speaker and play a sweep test tone, and can confirm that the 6x9 is only seeing up to 50-350hz and the 2.5" is from 350hz+ then you'll be good to go with an active.

 

As I understand you are just replacing the front speakers, correct?

1. Take a big breath. Yr entering the big dark rabbit hole
2. Disconnect center speaker and tweeters
3. The 6902 is woofer and mid. You will be running the line to each mid with crossover from the line feeding the door. You have two options. 1. tap in the speaker wire going to the door or 2. Run a separate new wire from the door speaker to the dash. First option is easier.
4. The amp under the seat does not have too many low frequencies and as the volume goes up the cut off is bigger. You should be fine in low pass but to make sure just leave it on hi pass and check it. There is no crossover control except the one of the HU.

if I may suggest, get rid if the amp under the seat as soon as possible.

 

I installed these Kenwoods in my wifes 4runner. For the dash speakers I didn't use the supplied crossover because the factory amplifier will already do that so it would be crossover twice. For the 6x9 in the door I used the non-crossover terminal because once again the factory amplifier is doing that. These are very nice components. 6x9's have nice bass.

 

I was wondering about this as an option. In the 4Runner, was it non jbl and using the factory radio? Is the 4Runner amp for non jbl like the amp for the non jbl in the tundra? I need to get in and test at the “amp” under the passenger seat. I thought I read somewhere that if you unplug either the dash speakers or the center channel that the doors would stop working. I’m not 100% sure what the amp is powering vs the factory radio on the tundra but I did pop off the dash grilles and center channel grille and unplugged the speakers 1 at a time. The 3 front dash speakers ( corners and center ) had 4 wires in the harness but if I unplug the corner dash speakers the doors still play. At least it’s this way on the ‘21. I don’t really care about the center channel, so I will probably disconnect it. On the 4Runner, did it have a center channel and did you keep it or disconnect it if you did have?

 

The 4runner I installed these in was a JBL with stock radio 2021. Either factory amplifier JBL or non should have some sort of crossover built in. The 4runner does not have a center dash speaker. I used an aftermarket pigtail to connect to factory 4 pin plug. In the tundra the dash corner speakers are wired to the door tweeter as well. I used the same 4 pin pigtail for the corner dash speakers as well. I have replaced everything in my Tundra but the headunit and the center channel speaker. Sounds pretty damn good.
