Follow up as I remembered to take pics.
I’m glad PHM isn’t here to chastise my dirty engine bay, but I do generally miss him.

Just spent two hours in a heated email debate with a field engineer over the compatibility of a 3.3V PCI card being compatible with the PCI-X slot of their PCI extended chassis. :argue:

The spec on the PCI card showed it required 5V power, so he naturally thought it needed a 5V PCI slot and not their 3.3V PCI-X chassis.

It wasn't until I emailed him my conversation with the vendor of the PCI card stating it wouldn't work in a 5V PCI chassis did he shy away with his tail between his legs.

I tried to explain the cutout on the card was for 3.3V signaling only and not a universal one that took 5V. Dude couldn't comprehend. :annoyed:

Another day in the life of engineering.

Do you guys remember a short video someone posted on the different air filter comparisons? I thought a stock actually performed better than the k and n or the afe filters? Or am I just blowing smoke?

Uhh. We're getting ready to drop $3200 on my daughter's braces in a couple months. That's after the insurance pays :(

Another option is Smile Direct. It's a fraction of the price of regular braces and you can't see them. My wife did this a few years ago and it works well.

I asked about similar. Unfortunately my daughter is missing 2 adult teeth so they wouldn't work for her.

They told me I could get them but I can't even justify the cost to straighten one tooth.

Looks like I'll be in Tampa this coming November for my little sister's wedding. Not looking forward to the train ride down and back since I can't fly.

Is there anything to do there for fun?

Insurance paid ZERO. Even for children on our plan.

Yeah, it hurt. That was the cash discount. Financing was closer to $8k.

I looked into them, but the way I live my life... I'd forget them fuckin insert things.

No fly? I've flown a couple of times in recent months. Was relatively painless as long as you fly a non-trashy airline like Delta or American. I was super happy on all 6 flights.

For Tampa ... I mean ... it's Florida. Florida is sort of a shithole, and I say that as someone who spent half or more of his life there. It's been a super big mess the last couple years. With places like Moon Lake or Wildwood making Deliverance look like a Disney movie kinda.

But yeah, in the Tampa area ... IMHO, Ybor is where you want to go for evening/late night shenanigans. Granted, I gtfo of the bay area for good a little over 10yrs back, so maybe things have changed. Edit: This may sound cheesy, but I always liked Busch Gardens too.

@Shifty' No fly. Have tinnitus that was caused from a barotrauma event (flying) and also flying soon after subsequently. My ears can't equalize like everybody else, so only car, train and boat are my only transports.

I've got a couple coworkers in their 60s who didn't wear earplugs and suffer from the same. I am given exception now to wear noise canceling headphones and a portable cd player as a result.

Yeah we're double covered with dental and one paid like $1k, the other braces weren't covered.

Boat you say? You're heading to Crockett and Tubbs state so you should do it right and take a cigarette boat.

Those boats make our Tundra look like a Prius. I believe they consume like 1/2 gallon per minute.

Tampa is one of the better big cities in FL in my opinion. If I had to move back to FL it would be my pick. What sort of things do you enjoy? I'll see if I have any suggestions

Well there must be a bar that hosts Patriots fans since Brady left us for Tampa Bay. :D

Besides that any pool\darts\cornhole bar or one that has rock cover bands works for me.

I'm not good enough at kiteboarding so thats out of the question as well as hiking since the tallest climb in FL is getting from the deep end of the pool to a high diving board.

Go kart racing maybe? Either that or sailing I guess.

I can go high, but it has to be a slow ascent or decent. Ive already hiked to the top of Mount Washington in NH without issue.

I mean, sounds like you're ready for FL. Just mix in some bath salts, meth or coke with that high and you'll fit right in.

I dunno what's still around. Both of my favorite Cuban spots (believe it or not, Tampa is/was/always has been one of the best spots for Cuban, don't ask me why!) have apparently closed, although La Teresita is still open, get the ropa vieja, vaca frita or a medianoche. We used to drink beer a lot at New World, but beer has gotten a lot better since then, and I think the Ybor location has since closed. Looks like Cafe Ponte is still open, and I think the chef has a new spot in Hyde Park. Jerk Hut for solid Jamaican jerk. Check to see if Wat Mongkolratanaram temple is still doing the weekend food fair thing, it's totally worth it. If you like Dim Sum, Yummy House is basically a chain at this point but I ate at the one in Gainesville a number of times and I bet they probably have one in the bay area. Oh, and burgers at El Cap.

Be sure to check if these are open ahead of time. Again, I avoid FL like the plague these days, except when visiting family in Miami and one of my best friends in Sarasota. 80%+ of the people I knew in that state are either dead, addicted, missing, in prison, or worse. One of my other friends who got out called me a few months back to let me know this creepy 'nice guy' incel type kid I hung out w/ in high school's son ended up killing my ex g/f, the friend who called had dated her after me. It's just ... ugh. Yeah. I know some people have a good life there and think it's awesome, but there's a whole slew of FL evacuees up here in ATL and we all have our war stories on what drove us out.

@shifty` Too bad there's no Pappadeaux's in Tampa. I might be in the mood for some gator tots and to try out some blue marlin if they have it. :D

What's some popular food native Floridians like which you can only find around there?
