My wife and I are selling our home and cashing-out some equity. My FJ is getting tired and my wife told me it's time to start looking at trucks. We live on Colorado's front range, so I'd prefer something more off-road capable; but the most intense driving I do anymore is pull 4000lbs of Camper over mountain passes and navigate beaches. I was planning on buying sometime in the next 6 months - year timeframe, but of course a used 2020 TRD Pro Crewmax just became available at our local dealer, and I'm wondering if I should jump on it. Asking price is over $67k, and they've got new 2021 non-Pro TRD's available in the mid-$50ks. I'd love to have a Pro because they're awesome, but I'm not sure they're what I need. Hoping you guys can give me some wisdom, ideally that it'll be okay to let this one go. Thanks!

A non-Pro would be better for towing because the Pro is leveled. You're going to be complaining about squat when your camper is hooked up.

Find a dealership that doesn’t mark up. 67k is ridiculous I got my 21 brand new for 58k and I feel like I over paid.

your fj should fetch a pretty penny in this market as well

    good luck to you!

The fj is rare since it’s no longer sold new. They are worth a lot on the used market. Probably get more than that with the current used market. Sell it on the personal market for as much as possible and use that to go get the pro new. But don’t buy this one, it’s way overpriced.

Thanks, guys! I just don't know enough about Tundras yet but I know the Pros can be hard to come by. I think we're gonna let this one go.

Definitely let it go, that price is ludicrous!

Also double cab would be better for towing.

Keep an eye out for double cab pros. Better towing. Also, if not really off road, a TRD off road packaged tundra will work just fine. Or buy a SR5/limited and do a suspension upgrade for when you do decide to go off road.

I own a Pro and would advise against paying a 10k premium above a Limited.

Same truck with minor changes - those changes add up when your doing it yourself - but still same basic truck.

At 55 (sticker) it was an easy choice for me - paying a few thousand more based on looks and badging might be foolish - but it’s my $$. Paying 12k wouldn’t have been foolish - it would be downright stupid.

That said - see what the “take” price is - 67k might just a set up sticker…walk in and say “I like it - but not 67k” next thing you know they might be offering 10k over on your trade - sometimes they start high knowing the hagglers will be out in full force - a nice trade gives them chance to make a double profit - which in a market with low supply is a big plus.

Just made a deal for a new one for $56,000

MSRP is the going rate on Pro's generally speaking.

All new Tundra crewmax’s and most used ones come with the same 5.7 V8 power train and 4x4 drivetrain (assuming your looking at 4x4 if considering the pro) so it’s just aesthetics and creature comforts from there. The significant difference on the newer pros is the suspension and forged bbs wheels…not discounting those being nice upgrades, but many aftermarket options for suspension, wheels, tires (pro stock tires aren’t great for an off-road oriented trim) and can always add a TRD exhaust and skid plate (TRD or RCI).

You’ll get more creature comforts option-wise out of a Platinum or 1794 (ventilated/cooled front seats versus just heated; blind spot monitoring in mirrors, and not have quite the premium sticker commanded with the Pro.), but have more chrome finishes

Not knocking the Pro, and if that’s what you’re after out the gate, it’s a great truck…but there’s a huge aftermarket for the tundra so can always customize/change out whatever bolt on parts as you desire down the line especially if the price point difference is significant

That's the MSRP for a brand new 2022 Sequoia Pro at the dealership we use in Austin, Texas. I definitely wouldn't buy.

I want to thank everyone again for their responses, it's all been really helpful! I think I'm going to start at a TRD SR5 and go from there.

I can only speak for the west coast... but Pro's in WA, OR and CA have been going for $5k-$12k over MSRP for the past year. I'm sure there are exceptions, but the norm is a sig. dealer mark up. If you got one for $56k OTD in Oregon, you definitely scored.

    Good Morning

No that is not going to be the OTD price but it is the sticker price...salesman we have bought a number of Toyotas from in the past quoted us MSRP and doesn't try to screw us on all kinds of other stuff we don't want.

TRD-PRO Leather in Black with Red Accent Stitching
    Vehicle Base Model $53,500
    Total Installed Packages & Accessories$1,306.00
    Delivery Processing and Handling $1,695
    Total MSRP* $56,501.00
Tax will be about $3,000 if we were not trading in our '21 Limited
