So its time to replace the original tires on my third gen TRD O/R. I have stock suspension and want to stuff the biggest tires on there, and I’m okay with melt mods and minor trimming but don’t want to get into cutting anything that isn’t plastic, which if I understand it right means I can go up to 285-65R18.

Use is 50/50 highway to city, mostly pavement, but its a farm truck so I frequently find myself in 4wd trying to power through wet sloppy mud. Winter capability is a must, icy conditions are more frequent than deep snow. And I don’t do any heavy towing. I’m trying to balance that mud capability with relatively quiet highway noise.

I was originally going to put some Wildpeaks on my truck, but I don’t think they’re available in that size, and they’re probably overkill for my use. So now I’m looking at Discovery XLT’s, but they seem to have mixed reviews for winter performance.

So can anyone recommend any other tires I should look into?

275/70-18 fit on stock truck, stock wheels, no issues. Lots of choices in that size. You can fit 285/70-18 stock, but there are very few tires available in that size, Ridge Grapplers being the most popular choice

You have a tough balancing act. Mud, ice, and quiet on hwy is the problem. Those don't go together. A good mud tire will not be good on ice but of course the only tires that are are studded. I would pick the condition you will encounter most often. I suspect that is mud. If wet and soupy you could go a little less aggressive. If sticky clay then more aggressive. The only tire mentioned that even comes close to being good in mud is the Duratrac. Discount Tire has a private brand Goodyear AT that I am looking at. Also considering the Cooper Rugged Trek and Atturos. I did a lot of mudding in my early years and ran some really aggressive mud tires. I don't play in the mud these days but want to get in and out of the places I hunt.

Ya its a bit of a wish list for sure, I had Duratracs in the past and while good they were overkill for my needs, and definitely too noisy for my tastes. So I guess I'm trying to find something with "mid level" tread if such a thing exists... I should backtrack on the mud comment, I do find myself in the mud but usually I'm able to go around it or just leave it for a day, actual deep mud bogging is something I try to avoid.

I had Discoverer 4S's on my last truck and they were good tires so I might just end up going to those again, but was hoping for just a bit more tread this time

    Stock, for now
With stock rims and suspension, I would dare to say that any 33” will fit. You will be limited on the width just because the OEM are only 8”. So any tire bigger than 10.5 will probably look funny.
