After dragging my feet for a year I finally had enough and decided to address the God awful audio in my 2020 Platinum. I went with a Kenwood 1057xr, 2x Audison APK165 components for front and back doors, 2x Audison Prima APS 10 subs, and an Audison SR 5.600 amp. Audison stuff is pricey, but it sure is nice. I will post pictures once I start the build in a couple of weeks, just waiting on some odds and ends.

    Don't forget your idatalink maestro..:D

You've got a short road ahead of you to get it all installed.
I know many of us wanted to retain the OEM Entune HU, but an aftermarket HU is the way to go.

I have no doubt once you get it all installed and tuned, you'll wonder why you didn't so it sooner....
I wasted 3 years and several hundred $$ trying to make that Entune HU work in my 2014 with nothing but frustration...

Also keep in mind since you'll have decent front front components, you'll probably want to just disconnect all 3 dash speakers (if you even wired them in with the new HU).

Your components will give you a nice 'front stage' without the dash speakers muddying (?) it up..

Ive got to go this route myself. I have never been so underwhelmed with a sound system as I have been in the Tundra. I seen in a post recently someone had a Tesla style HU that looked fantastic to me, but it seems it a China special. I still need to look into the popular HU for Tundras.

For someone who is neither a wiring guy or stereo installer guru…are those component speakers more or less plug and play or do they take retrofitting to get in place and adapters to wire into the audio harness?

You can get the adapters making it simple. Remove old speaker, screw in speaker mount adapter and use a wire adapter to connect to the stock speaker wire connection. You can either drill the sail panel for the tweeter or get the part from Toyota if you don’t have a tweeter already up there. No cutting wires - as close to plug and play as it gets.

Wiring up a new amp or replacing HU is a bit more involved…

Just some photos from the install, used sound shield around the door speakers. For the back wall I can't remember the products name I used but it was hella expensive then I layered the canvas cover with sound shield. It came out amazingly, the cab of the truck sounds like a vault now. Could not be happier with the Kenwood 1057xr and Audison speakers, subs, and amp.

You wont regret changing the HU...I had the dsr1 for a year and just installed a Kenwood. So happy with the sound difference.
