"The way they treated me and handled this situation, I'd like to see them try to make this right by offering something pretty nice," she said. "I'd like a new car."

Yea new car for a 2005 Toyota something with 195,000 miles. That's an even trade.

She wants a new car for a 9 year old vehicle???? Said the dealership offered her about $12k at first but was declined.

Something seems fishy about this LOL

Why go to a dealership and steal one of the oldest cars there? Something just doesn't sit right with this story.

I'd pay her $500 insurance deductible and thats it - so I think she should take the 6k and run lol

Sounds fishy. The dealerships I deal with don't leave keys inside vehicles.

Hell, the other day getting my oil changed in my truck, the service advisor took pics and video of the current trucks condition.

The service advisor also said that they have a key policy as well. Probably since they have 50-70k trucks and 100-120k dollar Corvettes/Camaro's

I think this gal is trying to take advantage. Id say let the reality of the real value of the truck and the insurance companies set in. Slander, false statements in a police investigation, and slander are nothing to take lightly if I were her. 12k was a pretty good offer. She's an ID10T for not taking that.

I hate this entitlement bullshit you see everywhere. Someone is wronged, dealership offers to make it right (doubly so), and this person wants to hold out for some sort of bonanza?

What the good %&^$ is wrong with the world today? She thinks she deserves a new car for her 9 year old 200k busted up truck because she feels people were rude to her? I imagine they were ultra respectful and pleasant until phone call/yelling session #7, when they finally had enough.

Further, as Law pointed out, who the hell steals a shitty old truck with 200k miles on it? I wonder if she was involved in the theft herself and this is all some plot to get free shit.

I say give her what the truck is worth and nothing more. A judge will most definitely see it the same way. The law is not set up so that when someone loses your property you get more than that property is worth. She should have taken their offer and gtfo.

A good friend of mine had his absolutely mint BMW M3 stolen from a local shop. Some 15 year old was caught in it later that week. He curbed the rims and didn't know how to drive a stick, which is why he attracted police attention. Turns out the kid swiped the keys from their key board while no one was watching. The shop made it as right as they could have, but my buddy has vehicle OCD hardcore and never felt the same about the car, his dream car.

I see this type of stuff all the time in insurance industry. People want to make a claim and get paid-bottom line. They love to try and "get rich" Insurance is there to make whole after an unforeseen loss, not pay your bills or upgrade your personal property.

Wouldn't the dealership turn it over to their insurance company? The article said the dealer gave her a runaround for a while, probably since no one wanted to take responsibility, but once it hit a managerial level, someone should have called their insurance company and turned it all over to them. The insurance company would have looked at blue book and written a check. At that point, she'd either have to get a lawyer, or take the check. A little haggling might have been possible, but not much.

When my friends M3 was stolen the shop paid him direct instead of through insurance, apparently having a vehicle stolen from your shop increases your insurance rates....
