Yes, rodents get into vehicles and do chew wires and other items. It happens, as you now know.

Sorry this happened - unfortunately it seems to be a fairly common issue with all manufacturers these days including Toyota. I believe moving away from oil based insulation was an EPA thing. I just killed a big rat this morning that was trying to make a home in our engine compartments.

Hopefully their fix will hold and you can take care of your rodent problem. Traps or a cat?? You could buy a lot of new Tundras for $8.7M. ;)

Check your cabin filter - they like to build nests in there.

I double backed taped a sticky trap with a couple pieces of cat food to the top of my air filter, caught one so far.

Very common, many newer vehicles have soy based insulation nowadays. My buddy manages a dealership and says he sees it in new vehicles on the lot often. Nothing like jumping into a new truck with a potential buyer only to have it not start. Hopefully they get you wrapped up quickly and properly!

Yeah its a common issue. I found a ton of mice droppings and had a start issue as well. they had just barely started to damage wiring. Spray diluted peppermint oil in the engine bay and wheel wells. I also put a dryer sheet in the fuse box. Keeps them far away. I reapply it every few months.

Actually, check out "Exterminators Choice Vehicle Defense Rodent Repellent Spray" on Amazon.......and be done with it. Made specifically for your issue. We recently have rabbit's in our back yard. Ordered some today. We had some spider issues that got taken care of yesterday. I asked the "Terminator" what is best to keep various vermin from chewing my wires...he was honest. Said cheaper to buy it on Amazon. F'ing rabbit seemed to like hanging out by my tunny.....

if you google "rid-a-rat" you can get a blinking LED. not sure how well it works but i was desperate enough to try it after a rat chewed through a knock sensor wire, then an abs, speed sensor, and vsa wire on another car of mine
