Best bet is OfferUp. You can generally find one for $700 if you keep looking. Look early in the morning if possible. Just make sure to pick a local pickup, not someone who says they’ll ship it. If you find a deal you can live with, insist on meeting at a police station.
All that said….there’s not really any next gen games worth playing. I’m still playing the same games Ive been playing for a couple of years.

My advice would be to save your money at this point. I've had one since February and used Twitter to determine when a drop at Target was occurring, so that method worked for me. To be honest, there really aren't enough native PS5 titles to justify getting one yet though -- especially at a premium price.

My son's father in-law sell ICs for a living.
He says because of the shortage, people are paying2x and even 4x for a chip they bought last year and money talks.
This is going to go on for another year or two.

First off, I didn't read all the replies so maybe someone suggested this already. I have the Gamestop pro account, or whatever it is that I pay for and get deals/coupons/cash back on. Part of that is I get advance notice when they will have a PS5 batch available for sale. I'd consider joining if you really want one so that you can try to buy early. I was able to get one for last Christmas. I also get $5 coupons each month, which I give to my kid when he buys some used game.

i have had a ps5 for the past few months and until broke-tober comes and the titles drop it is essentially just used to play ps4 games. Even if OP's son gets ahold of a system with spiderman he will be through it in the first week playing conservatively.

 

OP... Don't think for a minute that a site that accepts Paypal is legit! The latest scam is recycling tracking numbers from other orders. You click, you pay, you wait, but nothing ever comes. Your PayPal gets updated shipping info that says the package was delivered the day before you got the shipping update... It's all Bullshit. I would happily pay a few extra bucks for the Newegg or I'd keep searching for an OfferUp, Target launch, or FB market. Just like anything that is in high demand, there will plenty of scam!

This is true. It happened to us with an order that said it was delivered but it was not and they used PayPal to execute.
We contacted PayPal and they dealt with it and re-imbursed us.

 

Yeah we have the Pro set up app as well but no luck yet.

My son was able to snag a digital PS5 in today's Best Buy drop. He really wants the disc version though, because he has already bought some disc games. Maybe we can get him a disc version from Wally World tonight.

If anyone is interested in the digital version he already has, let me know. He'll likely list it on eBay but might take an offer up front. Of course this all depends on his success in getting a disc version.

I see people offering you paid websites to find PS5's, but this website is free and will alert you to stock when they put it online just like those Bot sites.....Just turn on the alarm notifications. It was how I got a Nintendo Switch for my kids when they were hard to find. Hope it helps you find one for your kid.
