I'm new to towing a camper and I'm looking at a 21G or 25G Momentum Grand Design toy hauler. The 21G uvw:6,400 empty hitch wt: 920 GVWR:9,995 length 21' 11"
    The 25G uvw:7,900 empty hitch wt: 1,1500 GVWR:11,500.
What does all these number mean and which one will my SR5 4x4 5.7L w/tow pkg. 18" tire a/c 6 spd. transmission. They say my truck want pull either one that I need a diesel truck but I've read on this blog where people pull 31' camper and one said he pulled a 40' I think and the only complaints was now their making Arabs happy because the gas mileage really suck. And is there anyway to increase gas mileage, blower, supercharger or something more frugal that can fix the problem?

Empty weight means completely empty - no water, gear, toys, waste, and usually no battery/propane.

Hitch weight is how much weight the trailer is putting on your truck dry. It could increase depending on how you load the trailer.

GVWR is how much the trailer and gear can weigh total.

Check your door sticker for your payload. It’s usually less than you think. Hitch weight will come directly out of your payload.

Loaded up, those are probably too much for a tundra if you want to stay within the #s. Length doesn’t matter as much as weight.

No way to increase gas mileage except driving very easily. It’s a hungry v8.

Also, you might want to edit out the political comment. It’s against site rules and can get you banned.

What timsp8 said is spot on.

That said, the GVWR of the 21 is the max weight the trailer can support, which is over what your Tundra can officially handle. I'd guess it can officially handle around 9500? Maybe 9100? But if you don't max it out, you'll technically be within limits for the pulling weight. (Just make sure you have a good brake controller, sway control, and load balancing hitch.)

Some would say you're pushing your luck running at max numbers. I would agree, especially if you're inexperienced.

Your problem will likely come on the hitch/tongue weight. You probably have a double cab, so I'd guess your max payload is around 1500lb. That includes the weight of all passengers (including YOU!), cargo anywhere in the truck, and weight on the truck from the trailer (the hitch/tongue weight). It adds up FAST.

You may be able to run over max numbers, at the expense of accelerated wear and tear on your truck. And it's unsafe. If you have an emergency stop, things can go bad real fast.

All these max weight numbers can be found in your owners manual, and also on the sticker on inside the driver's side door. Search engines are your friend! (google is not)

@ColoradoTJ Don't you have a response to this kind of stuff saved on your PC? Copy, paste, reply. It's been a long week and I'm too tired to care if somebody else wants to break their truck today.

I own a 2018 tundra and tow a 25 foot travel trailer. The gross weight loaded of the travel trailer is 6874 pounds. I actually called Toyota, gave them the Vin number, they told me the maximum towing capacity of my truck would be 8500 pounds. My tundra still squats considerably even though I have insured that the balance is as close to perfect as possible and I am also running stabilizer/swaybar system. With that said I would highly suggest not tying something as heavy as you were attempting, as the gentleman above stated. I have always wished that tundra would come out with a diesel truck but as yet that doesn’t seem it’s going to happen soon if at all.
