The check engine light of my 2016 Tundra came on I have 113K miles on it. (Ok...Its been on for a year, just seemed like a minor thing) Scanning the code it only had P0441 - evaporative emission control system incorrect purge. The auto parts store was trying to sell me a new valve, but before I shell out $80 I thought I would check it out.

From what I have read these tend to fail open(correct me if I am wrong) there was a suggestion to unplug the the wiring and tube from the canister and put your thumb over the opening with the engine running. If you feel a vacuum it's failed. No vacuum, so I plugged the wiring back in and a waited to see if I could detect it opening. I couldn't..... what kind of itererval would this operate on? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Don

I don't have a direct answer for you, my valve threw the same code when it was left unplugged and only threw an error on deceleration to idle. My understanding it the valve runs back to the fuel tank which may be another area to investigate. @Oats87 helped me troubleshoot my issue. @Ruggybuggy may be able to offer some insights too.

The only way your going to diag the problem correctly is to use Techstream. There are some very good bi-directional tests that will help pinpoint the problem.
